#PicoBBD

2021-08-28
Experimentation time, one signal, two effect chains, with a switch per stereo channel so that it can be performed. Lots of delays, of all sorts: tape delay emulation by #Magneto #FXAid and #Beads plus the #PicoBBD for crunch.

It wobbles, it pops, it almost ASMRs, in short, it's ambient again in this #RandomLoop

Hope you have a nice weekend everyone!

Do you like BIG sounds? Something that you can immerse yourself into? Do you like… drone? And maybe something a little dirty?

This #RandomLoop is exactly for you (minus the xruns during recording, let's say it was on purpose).

In this track (13' !) I have 3 voices: A drone from oscillator 1 of the #sv1b mixing a pulse wave, a one octave down sub, a slow arpeggio from oscillator 2 of the #sv1b and a ping of my #filter8.

The melodic programing is done through the Harrinton1200 algorithm of the #OrnamentAndCrime, doing Riemann transformations on a major triad, for those who know what that means.

The pinged filter is going through the #PicoBBD delay, and then through the #PlasmaDrive for some high freq crunch.

The drones are going through #Microcell in granular mode, seeding at high speed, so you don't really hear the individual seeds from the audio buffer, plus some fair amount of reverb.

I'm also using #Stages quite a bit, for a few LFOs (deciding when to reverse the triade for example) and for a couple of sample and hold.

#Maths is drawing a slow log function deciding on the transposition of the whole triad, hence the pitches going down slowly.

Have a nice evening everyone, and don't listen to this in the dark! Although it's a major scale, it's a bit anxiety inducing.

Hello Fediverse, I'm submitting you this new dark ambient modular piece: it's time for a new #RandomLoop.

It's the first time I'm able to mix more than 2 voices, in stereo in the modular, thanks to the #ExpertsSleepers #ES-9. Damn this audio interface is impressive with many outputs, many inputs being able to send and receive both sound and CV[1] (think of it as very slow sound, an electrical signal that can control #eurorack modules).

In this piece, my drum box is doing its thing, and it's sending sound to the #ES-9, the #sv1b is being played by my #SynthstromDeluge (through CV, a pair of Gate + Pitch) for a wonky bass line. This goes to the #PicoBBD for some noisification and chorus-like effect. Then, it goes to #Clouds for some digital reverb giving it a sense of deeper space. There's a bit more going on, but the main point for this piece is that “finally! I can mix stuff!”.

Other invisible point of happiness, this was recorded on a #PineBookPro via USB, a small armv8 machine with #Reaper. That's right, the #ES-9 here was the master of all sounds.

The tempo is 78 bpm, and the sample audio is in mono (due to an over-excitement induced oversight).

Have a lovely day today!

It's the happy holiday, everyone is jolly, and a new module has arrived. Thank you <anonymous person> for buying and reselling a module I wanted: the #EricaSynths #PicoBBD, a noisy delay effect based on the Bucket Brigade Device [1].

So, here's a dark ambient heart beat like, electronic daemon breathing: say hello to #RandomLoop 21.

NB: I mentioned earlier that the #PicoBBD was a noisy effect: you can indeed hear “clock whine” when the delay time is the longest. I think it gives quite a nice character in this ambient piece. If you're interested in what this module sounds like, go watch [2], it's pretty good.

Have a great holiday everyone.
