«When asked which album summed up the Fairies at their best, Sanderson has no hesitation in settling upon a live recording from 1971 called *Finland Freakout*, released in 2008. “Our version of The Beatles’ Tomorrow Never Knows. That was us. That’s how I remember us as a live act. The really big over-the-top screaming guitar, thundering bass and flailing drums. I like to think that when we were good we were very, very good; and when we were bad we were fucking awful.”»

* ne avevo parlato qui (a proposito di Pink Floyd e «Never Never Land»): puntarella.party/@leodurruti/1

#1971ACaso #PinkFairies

A questo punto la questione piĂč spinosa da affrontare riguardo a «Never Never Land» Ăš la seguente.

È il 1971, ti compri il disco, qualche mese prima hai divorato il singolo The Snake/Do It. Ci poggi la puntina sopra e parte proprio quella bestia di Do It <youtu.be/LxjV2tQXWkk>, una canzone che non si sa bene cosa sia nel 1971, una specie di anticipo dell'hardcore (non a caso coverizzata dalla Rollins Band <youtu.be/OSxbmueg0eM>). Godi come un riccio, vuoi spaccare tutto. Finisce Do It e parte 'sto maledetto folk pastorale di Heavenly Man. Delusione enorme (la delusione del 1971), bestemmi in aramaico.
Che cazzo di scelta Ăš mai questa?

Tra l'altro The Snake (bella) non Ăš nel disco, ma ciĂČ Ăš normale per l'epoca (Strange Kind of Woman non Ăš in «Fireball» in UK, per dire)

Tornando a «Never Never Land» dei Pink Fairies.

Plagio dei Pink Floyd un cazzo, c'Ăš una catena di influenze che segue questo filo qui:

Inserire pezzo folk pastorale dei Pink Floyd pre-1971 (io posso dire Pillow of Winds perchĂ© l'ho ascoltato ieri, ma tu fan dei Pink Floyd ne troverai sicuramente uno piĂč adatto) --> Heavenly Man dei Pink Fairies <youtu.be/Cuc5-BqcZ-o> --> Us and Them dei Pink Floyd <youtu.be/HoLhKJuGhK0> 😼

Plagio dei King Crimson? Anche qui direi di no, parliamo di somiglianze piuttosto, tra Track One, Side Two (s'intitola cosĂŹ, non l'ho deciso io) dei Fairies <youtu.be/eLhbSZVYid4> e I Talk to the Wind dei Crimson <youtu.be/UlKrH07au6E>

Marquee Moon? Kings Of Oblivion? Milo Goes To College? I couldn't have chosen better LPs if I'd tried.
