We were just watching #Delos on #plumbing. They show the problems common on boats with #toilets blocking, flooding, & smelling. Then they show their very expensive solutions to make them serviceable, reliable, & reduced chance of problems. Very sophisticated.
However, there is an alternative approach. Instead of more expense, complexity and space the other option to avoid all the problems is so simple (and better environmentally) is #composting toilets.
Plus they also work in boatyards.

Nice new tap fitted to the motorhome. Pull-out vege washer etc. I was going to buy a cheaper one but it was chrome plastic and this one was on special for $90, down from $167, and it's chromed stainless. Had to but a couple of plumbing adaptors because, motorhome 🙄, but it all worked out OK.
The 22-year-old old flick-mixer was well past its prime. One can only repair them so many times, unlike a good old-fashioned brass tap.
Al Shati recalls one day they spotted a leaking pipe on the street.
They pulled out their tools to fix it, despite being scolded by a passerby.
In a country where water is scarce, they knew saving that resource was more important.

My first job was to handwash my two gilets, but I found that the kitchen sink was blocked.
Dismantling the under-sink plumbing revealed not so much a blockage but a mega-stinky, crusty, congealed set of pipes that all had to come out.
Why is it the stink of drains lingers on your skin for so long?
But it's back together, and no leaks (yet).
I've left the under-sink cupboard for Sacha to sort out.
While I was in #plumbing mode I decided to clear out the shower tray drain. It has to be done occasionally, but .... eeeyuk!
I've done the rest of the #housework (including the washing!) that I'd got planned.
I've also fielded stupid questions from our daughter's Social Worker - things that are really for her to sort out, not me.
Plus, I've had a bonus bike ride to the local trading estate to order some fence panels for the side of our drive.
As it's 14 days - no I'm not counting - until our French #interrail trip - I've checked the pass details.

We have a flushing toilet for the first time in about 3 1/2 weeks, and a bathroom basin with running water for the first time in about a year.
It's been so long since we've had a basin with running cold water that I can't even remember how many years it's been. Two? Three? More?
Long enough to remember it's a luxury, anyway (any time at all is enough to remember a flushing toilet is a luxury), and long enough that I'll have to train myself out of rinsing my toothbrush under the bath tap.

A little #plumbing today. No, not computer system plumbing, but meatspace water distribution. After trying to ignore it, the leaky valve in my kitchen demanded attention. Out with the rotten old, in with the new.

Update on solar hot water: it's cooking! Solar collector at 167°F, top of tank 155, bottom of tank 147. The tank has a "mixing" valve at top, to mix in cold water with outgoing hot water to make it a human friendly temperature.
