One thing I really hate on #websites are dynamic #ads and #popups. Due to these the text you are actually trying to read is jumping up and down, and sometimes you even click on such and ad without any intention.

Please get rid of that messy kind of #online #advertisement, it really is annoying the crap out of me.

🎃👻 Ah, the edition of "Let's the Internet"—because who doesn't love setting their favorite sites on fire with comic sans and runaway buttons? 😱💻 Nothing screams "productive" like tormenting yourself with a pesky fly and surprise while wondering why you even opened the browser in the first place. 🕷️🔥

Mashable: U.S. government website’s ‘radical left’ popup may violate the law. “The U.S. federal government shut down at midnight on Wednesday, bringing a halt to numerous government services after Congress could not agree on a crucial funding bill. Unsurprisingly, the Trump administration was quick to point the finger at its opponents, clearly blaming Democrats for the shutdown. However, it […]

Ah, another tech altruist explaining why they gave away the web for free, because apparently the world needed more digital clutter 🤡🌐. Meanwhile, let's all take a moment to thank them for the infinite pop-ups and endless cookie notifications 🙄🍪.

Mashable: Tired of cookie consent pop-ups? You soon may see less of them.. “The European Commission is currently looking into relaxing a 2009 EU law that has inadvertently led to the endless cookie consent pop-ups around the web. The law, called the e-Privacy Directive, requires websites to request consent from users before loading cookies on their computer or mobile device.”

@mlohbihler @peterritchie I just want #PopUps And #Ads to be banned entirely!

  • Maybe mandating them to be opt-in and have the close button take at least 50% the size of it.

I don't consider having stacked modals anti-pattern.

I consider it an act of war.

Ah yes, the ancient ethical debate of whether it's "okay" to block ads—because we all know that pop-up ads are the pinnacle of human achievement, right? 😂 If you're not using ad blockers, do you even internet, bro? 🙄

Oh no, might ad blockers! 😱 Clearly, the only thing standing between the internet and complete chaos are those brave digital heroes blocking ads. Without them, we'll all be subjected to endless pop-ups and the horrors of autoplay videos. 🎉

It's quite insane how you can see after installing blocker, that bsky want's to open invisible popup (usually 4 at a time lol) when my cursor enters area of the post containing link to the page.

Like, I get it that they want to monitor our every move, but it gets ridiculous.

@SimpleProgrammer well, #JavaScript does artifically make #Websites slower and require unnecessary amounts of resources.

Anywhere else we'd not accept that #bloat [except with #Windows and #MicrosoftOffice but I'm not gonna deal with digital zombie - malware] but with the #Web it's okay to do so.

Sorry if I'm ranting, but the fact that 2007 slower mobile internet (or even WAP) in #Germany aka. #EDGEland felt faster than modern web on a 128x faster machine that has 1024x bandwith than is not excuseable!

So…who hates those Google log-in pop-ups that are seemingly everywhere now? Wanna make them go away?

1. Get uBlock Origin (which you should have already been using):

github.com/gorhill/uBlock

2. Open the plugin and click the settings button.

3. Click on the “my filters” tab and paste this into the input:

||accounts.google.com/gsi/*$xhr,script,3p

That’s it! Worked flawlessly for me.

(Updated URL. Thx @IceWolf
and @emz!)

Screenshot of a pop-up window with the title “sign in with google” followed by other information and a button with the label “continue.”Two screenshots of the ublock origin interface. The first one shows where the settings button is. The second shows where the filters input is on the view behind the tab with the label “my filters.”

News publishers take #paywall-blocker 12ftio offline
The News/Media Alliance says it will take action against similar tools in the future.
12ftio — or #12FootLadder — allowed users to view webpages without #ads, #trackers, or #popups by disguising a user’s browser as a #webcrawler, giving them unfettered access to a webpage’s contents. Software engineer Thomas Millar says he created the site when he realized “8 of the top 10 links on Google were paywalled”
