Any #MNT #PocketReform users here? I'd like to know if I can use it as my field trip machine. I would need about 6 hours of battery usage before trying to charge it and decent n/w connectivity (which it has). My usage would largely be note-taking, writing, attending meetings, fairly light computation tasks, and the rest can be managed through SSH when I'm in the field. I am only worried about the need to carry an additional webcam and mic.

Due to ill, had a quiet couple of hours playing OpenRA on the #PocketReform. Playing Dune 2000, it pulls the assets off the disc image beautifully, and lets me play the missions with the video briefings. John Rhys-Davies is, as always, magnificent.

Not all the single player missions are supported, they have to be rebuilt for OpenRA. List of supported missions are here:

Game plays great on the screen size, and very playable with the tiny trackball. Reasonable way to kill a few hours while keeping the cats company through the loud bangs outside.

RK3588, pull OpenRA down from source and build. Launch with "SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland" initially to get past the first screen and then you no longer need the flag.

Interesting phenomenon: on the #MNT #PocketReform, I _can_ use the trackball with my left hand, and so I do (don't ask me why I can't use a trackpad with my left hand, I just ... can't). But then for some reason, I click the wrong buttons. ???

@amin I already have a #Dasung #epaper monitor connected to my #Thinkpad, so just need a good keyboard (looking at #Atreus) and monitor stand and stuff to complete my desktop setup. Since my needs aren't that heavy, maybe my #PocketReform can double up as a "desktop" when docked...it's also likely to be more powerful by the time I've saved up enough to be able to afford it 🤪

And yeah I'm making do with a dumbphone already, which has been a bit hard but getting better by the day...I mean year 🚀

I'm with you on most things including the #Tangara (I want one) and #PocketReform (same). I have two #Kobo and a half already, but am hoping for someone (my future self?) to make a decent RSS reader for it that's more than just an ebook maker.

I think the main difference would be picking #XMPP for messaging. Hey, with #Convo running on #KaiOS maybe I can turn those phones into your dream phone 😉

Still can't get the Debian wine package working, but I /can/ get the amd64 wow64 build to work from Kron4ek, and that's good enough for now. I can run Carbide Create on the #PocketReform. I think there's now no Maker tool in my tool-chain I am without.

I just re-flashed my #MNT #PocketReform keyboard to match the Preonic layout that I've been using for years. My fingers are a little bit confused again, but hopefully less so than they were switching back and forth!

Flashing was easy and worked fine business.

An MNT Pocket Reform (a surprisingly tiny laptop with a 5x12 ortholinear mechanical keyboard) sitting on a wooden table behind a Preonic ortholinear mechanical keyboard of the same physical configuration. The labels on the key caps are mostly equivalent. The Preonic has blue and cyan key caps in the Data General Dasher color scheme. There are fresh pink and white flowers in a glass of water behind the laptop.

I was teaching a high-level overview of computer architecture in my Systems Programming class today, when someone asked a question that was best answered by having something to point at. I realized I was presenting on my #mnt #PocketReform, so I pulled out a Leatherman Micra, took the screws off the back cover, and slid it in under the document presenter. I used it to point out the CPU, RAM, SSD, and several buses. #OpenHardware #OpenSource

Very impressed at the speed of RK3588 in the Pocket Reform. It can open and manipulate a 2mio point cloud in CloudCompare seamlessly.

I took my new #PocketReform from @mntmn and crew to the faculty meeting today, and the most common response was basically "what do you mean, it's new, and it's real" and "but what would you DO with it?"

A number of people displayed increasing interest as time went on, however. ;-)

MNT #PocketReform count at #FrOSCon - I saw at least two of them in the exhibition area! Did not have a chance to chat to their owners, but I did enthuse about them to a bystander 🙂

Received my MNT Pocket Reform (RK3588, 32GB/256GB) today, and it's lovely. Thanks @mntmn for creating such unusual products!
