Important update regarding the Prairieland Defendants

The DOJ is currently pressuring all of the defendants who have not yet been indicted federally to take plea deals. These deals vary, but most involve up to 15 years in federal prison. As we recently saw with the Casey Goonen case, we are pessimistic that their sentences will be the short end of the proposed deal. Moreover, it’s not clear how these deals will impact the state cases.

These offers come over four months into an unimaginable ordeal of detention by these defendants. They are being told by the state that these deals are their only option to avoid potential life in prison. The defendants are psychologically worn down and are now having false deadlines forced upon them by a DOJ only interested in an easy win that can be used to validate their ridiculous fantasies of “Antifa terrorists.”

The majority of defendants have rejected these offers and will continue to fight their charges and to come home to their families and community.

Unfortunately a number of defendants may ultimately decide to accept these offers. We have immense sympathy for the difficulty our loved ones are facing. We do not believe accepting these deals will be a confirmation of the state’s narrative, instead it will only be confirmation of the unjust and barbaric actions by the state that we have seen throughout this case.

Savanna is 1 of 17 people arrested thus far on absurd conspiracy charges after an anti-ICE demo on July 4, 2025. She and her codefendants endure tortuous conditions in #JohnsonCountyJail in #Cleburne #Texas, including solitary confinement and guards reportedly strip searching them up to 3 times a day. With her bond set at $10 million, she has been held in solitary for over 2 months now.

She has devoted more than half of her life to advocating for animal welfare and human rights. Savanna is one of the Dallas anti-ICE protestors arrested in connection to a July 4th noise demo at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas. Nearly two months later, Savanna and her codefendants are still sitting at the Johnson County Jail awaiting indictment. Savanna's arrest and imprisonment at the jail is part of an ongoing attack on anti-ICE organizing and resistance. The federal government and state of Texas hope that by conspiring to repress protestors, they will crush the movement against ICE and ongoing deportations.
Notably, the Johnson County Sheriff was arrested yesterday and charged with sexual harassment and retaliation against a witness, and "official oppression" (to our knowledge, unrelated to this particular case). He was released within 24 hours.
Many of the current Dallas protestors are held in solitary confinement, and some report being strip searched up to 3 times a day. The Sheriff's arrest unveils corruption and abuse at the heart of the Johnson County police department - the very same department responsible for the atrocious living conditions in which Savanna and others must live, with no end in sight.
The fate of all anti-ICE protestors is tied to the fate of migrants across the U.S. We need to support Savanna and her co-defendants while continuing to fight against ICE.
