Ahhhhhh this #MariameKaba presentation on zines as community archives was thrilling. Loved the connections with early pamphlets and magazines made by Black people in the US, and her thoughts on the relevance of DIY publishing in, uh, high censorship environments.

"...However, too many in the current anarchist prison support tendencies have united with (...transcriber can't hear the word here sorry) left sectarian tendencies, and instead of fighting the state itself, have gravitated to mere support for certain prisoners, and given up the militant line of razing prisons as a whole.

The united states since the 1970s have created the largest prison system in the world, as has been pointed out. When I was in that prison system, and at the time it was 350,000 prisoners at most, and now we've got it in the millions. Even if we just count prisons themselves--we just count prisons and not jails, and not immigrant detention centers, you know, youth or whatever. If you add all this stuff together, you may be talking about 7 million people. But just as far as the penitentiary system, we can say that there are 2.3 million people in the american prison system.

But where has the mass outrage and protest been? Well, it's been swallowed up by academics, corporate financed social justice groups, and white radical protest groups. Prison abolitionists have lost their way from fighting mass imprisonment, to calling for and accepting reforms with authoritarian leftists-- anarchists, I'm talking about. We should be rallying people all over the world in opposition to american state slavery, and building a revolutionary civil war to overthrow the carceral state. Not just holding it up to public ridicule. Only by smashing the entirety of the state itself, especially the american empire, can Black people and all oppressed people be free..."

Update: COVERED! Thanks so much! Will delete shortly to make space.

Hey to the online helpers, we are down to the last $50 needed to get Ashley Diamond to a trans-affirming shelter location. There is a possibility she could leave as soon as 12 hours from now, if we can get the funds. Thanks for sharing your funds, time, and the toot.

Hey there. I have an update on Ashley Diamond, a Black trans woman, survivor, and activist. She has the opportunity to travel out of the especially trans-hostile state she's currently residing in, for a safe and affirming shelter situation. She's currently unhoused and unsheltered, and has been assaulted several times in the past couple of months alone, which compounds the already traumatic experiences she suffered in prison.

She is in need of $130 for her train and transportation costs (she had a train ticket for earlier this week and unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of her control, was unable to leave at that time but got the ticket turned into a voucher), and at least $20 for food on the way.

Please give to her directly via CashApp if possible. The other crowdfunding links that may be floating around are not 100% going into Ashley's pocket, but the CashApp does.

More about Ashley from linked article below: "Diamond was first arrested and charged with burglary in 2012 for trying to pawn a saw that had been stolen by her then-boyfriend, for which she received a 12 year sentence, Xtra reports. Although Diamond was released in 2015, she was reincarcerated in 2019 on a technical parole violation; she visited a gender-affirming mental health treatment facility in Florida, outside of the state of Georgia, which she was not allowed to leave. Since her arrest, she has been in and out of Georgia’s carceral system, where she was forced to reside in a men’s prison."

Dallas cops + ICE cooked up bullshit charges and caged 17+ people for making noise at the Prairieland detention center. Two months later they’re still inside, with obscene collective bail. Fuck ICE and anyone greasing the gears of this machine.

A great show and an important topic. I find the local and international perspectives particularly enriching. I myself was in prison for a while and precisely because I am familiar with the situation in prisons, I experience it as painful not to be able to change anything structurally.

When friends and comrades suddenly find themselves behind bars, I experience it particularly painfully today, as a former left-winger.
Sometimes I feel exhausted, but the (care) work must also be done.

Practical solidarity is essential: writing letters, visits, demonstrations and talking again and again about what is going on behind the thick prison walls.

A little advertising at the end: on October 26th there will be live broadcast here from Freiburg (south west of Germany), in connection with the A-Radio Days.

Solidarity and warm greetings.

I know there are websites out there that list political prisoners (such as environmental or civil rights activists) who have said they would like to receive letters. Can anyone recommend one?

"The Prisoner Correspondence Project is a solidarity project for gay, lesbian, transsexual, transgender, gendervariant, two-spirit, intersex, bisexual and queer prisoners in Canada and the United States, linking them with people a part of these same communities outside of prison."

May the concrete cages crumble, and until then, may we remember our siblings who are suffering the cost of state violence.
