@computersandblues@lurk.org I've done something similar with #Q4OS! It's based on Debian, so is rock solid with that 3 years EOL date. And yesterday I've pick it up to update it, because has been months since i've touched it. Just to find that it does automatic updates!
But the main reason that made me choose it is that it has a old-windows-like theme built it. The DE is one called Trinity, a lightweight DE forked from KDE 3.5 . It's not the lightest system that i've used, on startup was using 900mb/1100mb of RAM (idk if neofetch or free was lying to me), but all the little details makes a awesome OS for my old not tech savy friend. It even has a chime at start up!

#MacaroniOS was a bust.

Now testing out the newest from #Q4OS. So far it has been buttery smooth.

This long weekend’s #shenanigans with tech outcomes:

1) Nuked the install on the #OrangePiRV2. Seems like it did mot like my poor attempt in switching it over from #Ubuntu to #Debian via sources.list

2) Installed #BredOS on the Opi RV2- it’s okay; super limited repos and graphical issues.

3) On the #orangepizero2w I have switched the DE over to #Trinity from #XFCE. It is now running smoother.

4) #Ebox is updated and running #Q4OS. Was able to get #Steam installed for some light gaming. #Retrodeck was alos installed for some #RetroGaming

Not too shabby for a couple of hours playin' around. I think I will stay on #q4os and #kdeplasma for awhile on this lil #ebox. Hopefully q4os will be updating to #Debain #Trixie soon 🤞

j'ai abandonné je repasse à #Q4OS j'avais nullement envie d'installer #Debian 12 alors que le 13 vient de sortir...

Toujours le même problème ça s'installe mais ensuite problème côté Boot même avec Refind ( tiens tiens @zorg on a le même problème je crois bien :p )
Je vais probablement revenir à #Q4OS plus adapté vu la petite config...
Mais petit essai avec Debian avant ça

#GhostBSD was absolutely not fun with #Gershwin; I am also not that interested with #BSD to bother fighting the OS.

Tried #BesGNUlinux but it has issues with #Flatpak. Has an installer for flatpak built in but its super buggy and the apps do not appear in the system menus or in the finder app. Super lame.

Now in the process of testing out #Q4OS

Tiens comme je suis FouFou aujourd'hui je réinstalle #LinuxMint sur le Pavilion de ma femme... Cela avait un échec la 1ere fois et j'avais finalement réussi avec le minimaliste #Q4OS
Le premier essai n'a pas été terrible tjs ce problème de Boot qui m'amène sur Grub et malgré #Refind ça a merd..

Plus de 2 mois après on pourrait faire un bilan
* #q4os est sympa mais je testerai bien si #debian y fonctionnera du 1er coup :p
* #linuxmint est sympa mais je crois que le vieux portable rend l'âme. A voir si j'achète une nouvelle batterie
* #ZorinOS est sympa mais la belle fille n'arrive pas à lancer les Sims4 dessus :p
A voir si je teste pas une distribution de plus sur chacun de ces machines ressuscités.
Celui pour la belle fille doit pouvoir faire tourner les Sims4 via steam (vieux pc)
