Ich aktiviere mal die #Schwarmintelligenz der #EDV #Bubble im #Fediverse für ein #Brainstorming 😁
Bislang habe ich daheim ein 1-Bay #NAS von #QNAP als #Datengrab und die täglichen inkrementellen #Backup der #Rechner.
Das NAS wird regelmäßig über eine temporär per #USB angeschlossene verschlüsselte #Festplatte gesichert.
a) ist das mit dem inzwischen betagten 1-Bay NAS alles langsam
b) habe ich in den letzten Tagen in #Virtualbox #HomeAssistant OS zum Testen installiert und möchte HA nun dauerhaft einsetzen.
Das NAS kann aber keine #Virtualisierung, um HomeAssistant darauf laufen zu lassen.
Jetzt stellt sich die Frage nach der #BestPractise, um
a) schnellere Backups
b) den 24/7 Betrieb von HomeAssistant
unter einen Hut zu kriegen.
Ein #RaspberryPi für HA macht wenig Sinn, da es a) nicht löst.
Ein richtiger #Homeserver mit z.B. #Proxmox ist schon nice, aber trotz #Photovoltaik und #Stromspeicher ist der #Energiebedarf gerade für die strombezugsintensiven Wintermonate nicht ohne.
Ein x-Bay NAS mit #VirtualisationStation kostet dafür, dass es halt doch kein echter, vollwertiger Rechner/Server ist ziemlich viel.
Also wie würdet ihr das lösen, und warum so und nicht anders?

About a week later than planned, I finally have my blogpost on automating step-ca in my #HomeLab, using #Puppet to automatically setup, and ensure renewal of, short-lived ssh certificates on all my hosts.
The end result is that all my internal certificates, both SSH and X509 for TLS have lifespans < 48 hours, so I'm way ahead of the Browser CA Forum's 47-day-lifespan-by-2029-plan.
At least, that's the first half of the post; the second half is then me describing all the services that I can't control through puppet, and how I wrangled them into Supporting SSH certificates whether they wanted to or not. Including #Truenas, #QNAP, #Opnsense, #HomeAssistant and #Forgejo/#Gitea.
It's mostly talking about SSH certs, but it also touches on issuing regular X509 certs for their web interface certificates, for the ones that don't support ACME properly (spoiler: that's most of them 😩)
Given this is probably of interest to maybe a dozen people on the Fediverse, it's probably not worth all the time I put into it, but on the plus side, I feel I understand how everything works incredibly well now, which will be useful going forward. (In before someone puts a comment here telling me how I could have fixed some of the problems I hit here much easier!)

if you have some gear at the house that can't get a 10GbE network interface so you need an inexpensive switch, i bought and tried three and will tell you about one: #QNAP SKU `QSW-2104-2T-R2-US` has:
- 4 2.5GbE RJ45 ports (2.5Gb/1Gb/100Mb)
- 2 10GbE RJ45 ports (10Gb/5Gb/2.5Gb/1Gb/100Mb)
my oldest filer is a Synology DS918+ using a ugreen 2.5GbE adapter and i created a subnet for my docker servers and other NFS clients to reach it via that 2.5GbE interface.

@Tudwall Niveau hardware le #QNAP a l'avantage d'avoir un iGPU ( pour le transcodage matériel ), le CPU est aussi bien plus performant.
Il n'y cependant pas d'équivalent a la suite Office de Syno, pour les Photos, il y a QuMagie. Apres il y a aussi des app tierces, et docker, .. qui permet d'ajouter tout un tas d'appli !

Ich hatte ein paar Jahre lang eine #qnap NAS (TS251+) und seit ca. einem Jahr eine #ugreen mit Intel N100 und #openmediavault als OS.
#qnap würde ich nie wieder kaufen. Ist ein linux, aber verbastelt. Die Benutzerverwaltung ist schrecklich und das Filesystem proprietär, so dass die Platten bei einem Ausfall der qnap-HW nicht auf einem anderen Rechner gemountet werden können.
#omv ist ein debian mit Zusatzfunktionen, sogar apt funktioniert.

Ich habe nur eine 8 TB HDD für Backups verbaut + eine 7 TB M2 SSD für Container/Daten.

Was ich eigentlich sagen wollte: Bin sehr zufrieden mit der N100 CPU, M2 SSD und #openmediavault .
Vorher hatte ich ein paar Jahre eine #qnap NAS, die war rückblickend eher nervig.
