In a world first, scientists have demonstrated an enigmatic phenomenon in #quantum #computing that could pave the way for fault-tolerant machines that are far more powerful than any supercomputer. The process, called "magic state distillation," was first proposed 20 years ago, but its use in logical #qubits has eluded scientists ever since. It has long been considered crucial for producing the high-quality resources, known as "magic states," needed to fulfill the full potential of quantum computers. Now, however, scientists with #QuEra say they have demonstrated magic state distillation in practice for the first time on logical qubits

Writing a workshop called "Let's run code on a computer!" for Grainger's tech conference. I really want to capture that child-like excitement for a neat piece of tech independent of whether it has some kind of business value. Thinking of having some fun physical props etc.

I'll be using 's neutral-atom quantum computer, Aquila, because I think NAQCs add an extra level of tangibleness.

QuEra, a startup, is set to launch the world's first commercial fault-tolerant quantum computer with logical qubits, which may be operational by the end of 2024. Logical qubits, created by connecting physical qubits through quantum entanglement, help reduce errors in quantum computers by storing the same data in different locations.

The upcoming machine, featuring 256 physical and 10 logical qubits, is expected to launch in late 2024. This follows a recent study demonstrating a quantum computer with 48 logical qubits, showcasing advancements in error correction for quantum computing. QuEra plans to launch multiple quantum computers in the coming years.
