Prunus virginiana, choke cherries. Although I'm slightly dubious about that ID because the flowers are spaced so far apart on the racemes. Looking at several racemes of tiny white flowers, pretty typical Prunus, most of the way open (stamens still curled up inside the flowers).

Rhus aromatica, fragrant sumac. Looking at a group of young twigs with fresh green leaves, and two clusters of flower buds, still tightly furled. I'd never seen this species before and was a bit leery cause there's a Poison Oak that looks generally similar (enough that it used to be considered part of Rhus). But as far as I've found this one is OK and is actually used for food.

Ribes acerifolium, maple-leaved currant. Closeup on the very small green and red flowers on a loose raceme, among a few of the leaves. A bit of a challenge photographing this one as it seems to prefer the deepest shade.

Rosa nutkana, nootka rose. A simple unfurling rose flower, single, deep pink in the center fading to pale pink at the edges, with a boss of stamens in the center, pale yellow as they are not yet mature.

Oemleria cerasiformis, osoberry. An open raceme of pendant flowers on long pedicels, with small white petals. I think these are male flowers - you can't quite make it out at this resolution but the stamens are fully developed and pollen-bearing. We're looking at the flowers from the side.

Oemleria cerasiformis, osoberry. Looking up into a group of flowers from below. I think these are female - vestigal stamens without pollen, and visible ovaries. Grey sky in the backgorund.

Ribes sanguineum, red-flowered currant. A raceme of flowers handging from a twig. At the base of the raceme, three leaves, sort of five-lobed cordate with deep creasing. The flower cluster is opening from the top down; four flowers are open and there are many more buds waiting. The sepals are pink and open wide, looking like petals, and the much smaller white petals remain in a tube-like shape sheltering the stamens & pistil.

Salix, willow. Against a completely blurred out light grey background, a twig with four flowering staminate (pollen-producing) catkins. On each catkin, the unopened pollinia are bright orange, and the open ones are bright yellow with pollen; the rest of the structure is a pale green that contrasts pleasingly with the orange. When the garden was planted ca 1984, several species of willow were included, so this volunteer tree might be a cross of two of those trees.

Each branch is clothed with many small maple-like leaves, in a wide range of colours from green through gold, orange, red and wine.The sun is shining through trees above and dappled afternoon light is reaching the plant. Red currant clusters, there is a little evidence of currant fruit fly showing on some of the berries which is typical.

Wax currants. They are smaller than red currants and slightly more orange colored or a brighter red. They are single berries like a goosberry and not in clusters. The dried flower remains on the end of the fruit.

Service berries starting to ripen. They are a dark purple red color.

The flowers have 5 petals, the center is tubular with a redish-orance rim, in the center of that tube there is a longer piece that is yellow transitioning to green on it's tip that is slightly larger and slightly spread. There are 4 or so open flowers 3 or so unopened flowers. The unopened flowers are tubular, green where attached which fades to yellow near the tip that is somewhat bulbous. The green leaves around the flowers have a bit of red on some of their edges. The two upper open blossoms are facing the late afternoon sun.
