#Stuff: "General Practicioners will soon be able to diagnose ADHD"
#RNZ: "#GPs will soon be allowed to diagnose #ADHD"
BIG difference. Being able and allowed are two very different things.

I read an article on #RNZ this evening about old timey NZ-made radios.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/life/culture/the-innovative-company-that-changed-radio-in-aotearoa
That led me to https://www.vintageradio.co.nz/, a great old-school website that collates all the info on NZ's old radios.
It's of interest to me as I still have my now-deceased Great Aunt's old valve radio, pictured below with my young daughter back in 2010. It still works (AM only) and I love it.
My Great Aunt Lill was crippled by polio when she was young and lived a simple, frugal life with limited mobility in leg braces.
I tracked down her model on the vintageradio website. Based on the scan of the old advertisement for this Murphy G202 radio, it sold in NZ for£69. "LUXURY ... at low cost!" to quote the ad.
I just did an inflation adjustment to today's dollars on the Reserve Bank website, and £69 in 1957, when this radio was made, would be $4,400 today!
Now I'm wondering how the family got the money together to buy her this.
Radios were a big investment for the home back then. They were different times.
"In references how in the past, major drug seizures would have a clear impact on consumption. That's no longer the case. According to the National Drug Intelligence Bureau, there was a 96% increase, in 2024, of the minimum annual consumption of methamphetamine compared to 2023."

Listening to Guyon Espiner's interview with CLuxon. He starts off sounding a tad more human than he did with Jack Tame, but the chatbot-speak kicks in about 5 minutes in;
"But what we are doing, is we have refreshed all of our Defence leadership, from heads of the Forces, through the Chief, through the Defence Secretary, through to the Minister, obviously. And I've asked them for a new strategy on our defence strategy."

If the RNZ piece the other day about Alex the teenager who died alone in a motel from his eating disorder made you want to smash your radio, here is an antidote. Heartbreaking but, but the kind of reporting he deserves.

So ... if people's spending is what helps the economy recover, boosting incomes and therefore tax revenue, why has this government been cutting spending that puts money on the pockets of the people most likely to spend it?
