Last night, I saw some folks in the Raft Discord who were asking for help (they needed someone to hop in and revive them so they wouldn't lose their stuff).

I started up Raft and then went to see if they still needed help. While I was waiting to get a response, my friend's son (same age as mine) saw that I was loaded into Raft, and he asked me if he could get into my game.

Well, I haven't played Raft for a long time and I don't remember where all of my "worlds" are at in the story. We decided that he'd start a new world.

While we were struggling to collect enough stuff that our characters could fight off Bruce and keep ourselves from expiring of thirst/hunger, my friend (this kid's mom) noticed we were on, and she jumped into the game. Then her husband jumped in, and their daughter (she's younger than her brother)

We had FIVE people on the starter raft (if you don't know, it's SMALL). It was kind of hilarious. We didn't even have a BED (which you need so that you can revive folks when Bruce the Shark chomps them too thoroughly).

I decided my job would be fishing, because that's a good way to get enough nutrition to keep you going in the early game. So I hauled in fish after fish and kept the grills full while others pulled in flotsam and jetsam, and my friend built the raft out.

It was so much fun. We did not play long because it was kind of late when we started, but it was a good time. We did well in building up our raft so we could keep up with water and food (we have planted potatoes!). Once we get some smelters and upgrade the cooking stations and water purifiers, we'll have it pretty easy.

It was an unexpected and very enjoyable game. I'm not usually fond of surprises but this was a good one.

Алгоритмы консенсуса позволяют группе несовершенных узлов действовать как единое надёжное целое. Три классических алгоритма – Paxos , Raft и Zab – стали основой для построения отказоустойчивых систем. Они гарантируют, что при наличии кворума узлов (обычно большинства) все узлы придут к единому решению и последовательности операций, сохраняя консистентность данных. В данной статье мы рассмотрим устройство этих алгоритмов «под капотом», их этапы (выбор лидера, репликация журнала, обработка сбоев и восстановление), области применения в реальных системах (от координаторов в кластерах Kubernetes и Apache Kafka до распределённых баз данных), а также сравним готовые реализации (такие как etcd, ZooKeeper, Consul и др.) по ключевым характеристикам.
