Ranchers can't just "get their prices down". First cows are expensive. A herd of quality calves is $200k to $400k, theres feed, land use leases, labor, equipment, veterinary, and it takes a year to fatten them up to realize a profit. It's not cheap, and it's dependent on other things. You cant just lower the cost of doing business in ranging. If only we hadn't evolved to have the protein needs we have.

I know - vegetarians, vegans, pescatarians, every kind of -tarian you can think of will object.

Gave vegetarianism a try for several yrs. Just didn't work for me.

Best I can do in my old age is minimize the animal flesh I do consume: no pigs, minimal beef, the rest poultry, eggs & milk products.

Still waiting for the promise of lab-grown meat.
