The Northern Irish band Kneecap are at the center of a controversy after video emerged of a member saying: "The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP" at a gig in November 2023. The Irish-language rap trio formed in 2017, and reached a new audience when a semi-fictionalized film starring Michael Fassbender won a British Academy of Film Award and was shortlisted for an Oscar nomination. Multiple venues have canceled Kneecap's concerts, but the band's manager says that they are victims of a smear campaign because of their outspoken support for Palestine, most recently at the Coachella festival, where they described Israel's military action in Gaza as "U.S.-funded genocide."
