We have been managing this urban woodland for 20 years. This summer maintenance day will focus on clearing dominant species like nettles and brambles to promote greater floral diversity along a newly created woodland ride.

Dappled sunlight and a few (some more, some less) tired bodies.
We came, we sawed (just a little bit), we 'weeded' (those nettles and cleavers were 'in the wrong place') and we mulched, we built some more dead hedges and mulched them too, and we did some maintenance on the rope fences: Some of the aftermath…

A pleasant day not too hot to work, and mostly in the shade and not the glade. Looking forward to fixing a rope fence and presumably playing with armfuls of nettle.

Quite the quantity of nettle and cleavers and most troublesome of course brambles has been bashed, slashed, strimmed and otherwise cleared today; and the material all placed atop the log pile hibernacula that border the ride.

Home from a half day volunteering in #LondonFields green classroom area, mulching doughnuts and fixing fenceposts after the ravages of curious small children and the dogwalkers' beasts. Cream crackered and drinking whisky in an early bath.

This photo won’t win any awards, but it’s great to see a couple of Common Frogs in the pond garden on London Fields. Another species that’s here thanks to the biodiversity project.
