feelings ... I'd love to make people feel Amused ...
but *I* feel there isn't really time for that, so usually i aim for Angry or Appalled.

As though poetry, one of the last bastions of magic, could still make a difference.

(but perhaps I'm widely on Mute by now ... ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

@miksimum
Some poems cannot be fully appreciated without the text.
Some poems cannot be fully appreciated unless heard.

Some poems should never be spoken except by (or directed by) the poet.
Some poets should never read their own poetry aloud.

Most people should never read any modern poetry aloud (except in an empty room)

Where are you, Richard Burton?

@miksimum
To be successful, a poem should at least seem to mean something on first reading.
To be great, a poem needs either truly remarkable observation, a magical play on words, or more than one layer. Preferably all of those.

You might never fully understand a poem until you discuss it with the poet and see all their notes.
The poet might never fully understand the poem until a reader analyses it.

Lately Iโ€™ve been tilting my poetry collection toward โ€œPoetry by favorite speculative fiction authors who didnโ€™t treat poetry as their main thing.โ€

The newest addition arrived today!

I shall report back! ๐Ÿง

The book โ€œPoemsโ€ by Iain Banks and Ken MacLeod, lying on a patterned tablecloth with a wooden sculpture of a bird leaning over it.
