Day 16 (Bingo is within my grasp!): I'm going to go see Rebecca Roanhorse, author of Black Sun and Trail of Lightning, @readercon in Burlington MA tomorrow so I've done some rereading. k-squareproductions.com/gmbc

16 Bingo chips down on the BPL Bingo card and still no Bingo. Added Indigenous author to the list this time.

Next up! BLACK SUN by Rebecca Roanhorse, my first foray into her work. Roanhorse is a guest of honour at Eastercon in Belfast in April, so I am making sure I’ve read at least one of her novels by then! #bookstodon #scifi #RebeccaRoanhorse #BlackSun

On a black background, a blue human face merges from the nose upwards into a pair of crow’s wings and a crow’s head where the person’s forehead would be. A constellation of stars is around the crow’s head. An eclipsed sun shines around the person’s head, with the title BLACK SUN written in yellow on the edge of the eclipsed sun.

Book 34: “Storm of Locusts” by #RebeccaRoanhorse.

Picks up after the first book and does everything a sequel’s supposed to: we go outside the walls of Dinétah, Maggie gets a bad-ass lightning sword, encounters more tricksy gods and a more powerful adversary. Everything feels bigger. But it’s not as good as the first book. Still, a fascinating world with some good character progression.

Book cover art with three badasses on a ridge above a town. The first is a Black woman with a large Afro and gold hoop earrings holding an automatic rifle. The second is Native. She crouches atop an overturned car, shotgun in one hand, sword strapped to her back. The third is a Native girl in a poofy white dress, pearl necklace, automatic rifle resting on her shoulder. A huge explosion in the town lights up the night sky, billowing smoke high above them.

Právě dočteno.

Pokud hledáte netradiční fantasy, tak by vás možná mohla zaujmout tahle post-apo fantasy s indiánskou mytologií. Kniha navíc získala Locus Award 2019 v kategorii Nejlepší románový debut, nominaci na Huga a hlavní cenu Locus a World Fantasy Award.
Pro mě osobně se jedná o jeden ze slabších kousků z nakladatelství Gnóm, ale přesto tahle kniha stojí za pozornost.

#TIL that Cara Gee, the actor for #CaminaDrummer in #TheExpanse TV series, is an audiobook narrator. She's one of the voices for #RebeccaRoanhorse 's trilogy Between Earth and Sky including the third/final #MirroredHeavens, among many other books.

She was FANTASTIC in The Expanse - so good that the character's role was greatly expanded from the books. I can't wait to check out some of her narration. @bookstodon

Book 38: “Trail of Lightning” by #RebeccaRoanhorse.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. #RuralFantasy (new genre for me) that follows a Navajo monster hunter as she deals with deities and witches with a hot medicine man on the rez. There’s a second book already out that I can’t wait to read.

@bookstodon #Bookstodon #Books

Book cover with artwork of a Navajo woman standing on the roof of a beat-up pickup truck. She holds a long knife in one hand and a gun in the other, wearing knee-length moccasins and a black leather jacket. In the cab, a young man looks out the window. Lightning strikes around her. Blurbs read: “An excitingly novel tale,” by Charlaine Harris, “Fun, terrifying, hilarious, and brilliant,” by Daniel José Older, “Powerful” by Kate Elliott.
