#RedwoodJS

2025-05-20

1/1 End of last year @redwoodjs removed their funding of their graphql framewor, put it im maintenance ans create a new one. It felt like a redwood tree fell on our foot. Redfoot, we decide, will be the untangled underlying fastify framework. It took us half a year, but we managed it. Redwood was a great help, but we wont look back. The new framework gives us some advantages:

RedwoodJS.com recently announced to deprecate their graphql based rails-inspired framework in favour of rwsdk.com . This was bad news for our company, since we adopted the framework two years ago. The last months i worked on an emergency plan, by exposing the underlying fastify. A lot will work the same as before, with slight differences. Hope i can share the repo soon for others to use! (It will have esm support in backened 😍)

I'm genuinely very impressed by

It's kinda like all the flexibility of javascript with none of the mayhem

What are your goals for this week?

What are you building?
What will be a good result by week's end?
Are you attending any events this week?
Any suggestions of events to attend?
Did you meet your goals last week?

I'm virtually attending RedwoodJs on Wednesday.

short week for Labor Day in the US. Schools are closed and many people are off Monday.

Checked my calendar looks like plenty of events this month. Accessibility Guidelines seminar this week, #CodeWorld, and #RedwoodJS later this month.

I'm diving deeper into #redwoodjs and loving it.

It's very opinionated - not going to be everyone's cup of tea - but boy does it make me productive. So much out of the box that hacking together an MVP feels almost too easy.

Just did a #redwoodjs upgrade from v3 to v4 and it was incredibly painless. Incredible framework. Check it out if you want to build anything nontrivial: redwoodjs.com/

The more I use #redwoodjs the more I appreciate how it's scaffolding forces me to make smaller, more testable things.

@softinio The comments on this seem to be somewhat split. My own experience: I’m working on a greenfield commercial app using the framework, which relies very heavily on . My app is not in production with customers yet, but it is a deployed PoC. A couple years ago, I would have said gql isn’t ready for prime time. But now, with things like tooling from The Guild, it is ready and it brings a lot of advantages.

@couka Classes have always felt “phony” in the JS world. I did start with Classes in React, but more recently I’ve been working with and that opinionated framework prefers Functional. It took me a while to adjust to React hooks for managing component lifecycle, but having made that transition, Functional definitely feels like it’s the future of React
