Grotto Pizza sold to longtime employees

Rehoboth Beach-based Grotto Pizza has been sold to four employees who have more than 100 years of experience with the company.

The process started last year, but the contract was signed in early 2025, said Grotto Pizza President Jeff Gosnear, who has been working at Grotto since 2002, was named president in 2023 and is now the majority owner of the company.

Text Shot: COO Adam Webster, who began with Grotto Pizza in the late 1980s, is the other large investor, said Gosnear. There are two minority owners who have about five decades of experience, he said.

Dominick Pulieri founded Grotto Pizza in 1960 at the age of 17, with his sister Mary Jean and her husband Joseph Paglianite.

Pulieri is now 83, and he always wanted Grotto to be a generational business, but he never married, didn’t have children or have extended family members interested, said Gosnear. It was time to make the transition, and Puliero wanted to ensure it stayed in the hands of people with the same ideas, values and work ethic, he said.

A layered beach picture. Bottom to top, first layer is beach vegetation growing on light brown sand. Vegetation is pretty barren and brown, consistent with the fall season. Next layer is open sand leading to the ocean (a short picket fence separates the vegetation section and the open sand). Next is the ocean, dark brown near the sand and a darker green farther out toward the horizon. A small strip of light blue sky can be seen just above the distant waterline, however the majority of the sky is taken up by dark, ominous storm clouds.

Rehoboth Beach Icon Passes 😢

Allen "Al" Fasnacht, the owner of Funland amusement park in Rehoboth Beach, has died at the age of 96. Fasnacht was a beloved figure at the park, known for his kindness and dedication to creating a fun and family-friendly atmosphere. He worked at Funland for over six decades, starting in 1962 when his family bought the park.

A beach scene, odd in that it has a very storm like feel but is also bright in many places (both in the whites of the clouds and shiny reflections on the water). Very bottom of the picture is a small strip of sand leading to the ocean. The next quarter of the picture is ocean water, initially dark and gray, turning green in the far distance. The upper three quarters of the pic are deep gray and white clouds with a few patches of light blue sky also peeking through.

The #RehobothBeach Planning Commission unanimously approved, with conditions, the site plan for the proposed #BelhavenHotel, with Spring, 2026 opening planned.

The hotel has an address of 2 #Rehoboth Ave., but the project site stretches the width of the block south to #Wilmington Avenue and also fronts the #Boardwalk.

The structure would be four stories, with the hotel occupying the top three and retail on the ground level. As before, the entrance to the hotel is on Wilmington Avenue, but another change is that the main lobby has been moved to the second floor
