On a red wall a simple carved gilt frame. In it a painting of the saint giving a blessing. He's framed by an archway, and there is a book, and a garland of autumnal fruit and leaves.

Between these two paintings, how many years ?
None.
They were made roughly the same year : 1465. Yet they display totally different approaches towards representation. One, by Giovanni di Paolo, from Siena, is narrative, semantic, descriptive, in the spirit of the Middle-ages. The other, by Andrea Del Verrocchio, of Florence, is focusing on emotion, through the accurate, optic representation of shapes and attitudes.

Giovanni di Paolo : saint Hieronymus appears to Saint Augustine.
Framed in arches supporting a roof, saint Augustine is at his desk. A hole in the wall displays saint Hyeronimus. The right part of the painting displays a city street with a bearded man standing in a doorway. Buildings are scaled down so they can fit in the painting while allowing us to see the characters at a big scale.Andrea Del Verrocchio, Virgin Mary and her child.
On a delicate landscape with atmospheric depth, Mary holds her child on her lap.
The child extends his arms towards her.
She wears the attire of a noble woman. Fabrics and details are very well rendered. We don't see her pupils as she looks down at her child with a serene smile.

#Michelangelo was gay AF.

He was a sculptor at heart and that’s why there are naked men all over Florence.

This is a Twitter screenshot featuring two tweets and three attached images of statues. The top tweet from Michael P Gibson (dated 10/18/25) states: "There is an American renaissance waiting for us if we stop funding higher ed and abolish public schools". Below it, Alan Cornett’s tweet (dated 10/14/25) reads: "Michelangelo carved these when he was 19 years old." Accompanying the tweets are three images of stone statues: the left image shows a winged angel kneeling on a pedestal; the top-right image features a robed figure standing on an architectural structure; the bottom-right image displays another winged figure. The statues have detailed carvings, and the background includes red patterned walls and additional

A striking historic church in Germany, built in the mid-1600s in the Italian Renaissance style.

The church was built in the mid-1600s in the Italian Renaissance style. Funeral services continued here until the 1970s. Since then, the building has been preserved but left abandoned.

ICYMI: A great thread from @appuhn.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy on Renaissance studies & intellectual history. A scholarly field must change and grow in new directions to be a living field. By contrast, a moribund field only recognizes as legitimate a dated caricature of itself. #earlymodern #Renaissance #histsci 🗃

The image depicts a monochromatic print of an old religious painting featuring the Madonna and Child. The Virgin Mary is seated, holding a glass cup with her right hand while resting on what appears to be rocks or boulders in her lap. She gazes off into space with a serene expression, suggesting contemplation or prayer.

The infant Jesus sits close by, looking up at his mother with an innocent and curious expression. His gaze is directed toward the viewer as well, creating a sense of direct engagement.

Both figures are depicted within an arched frame that resembles part of an architectural structure, possibly indicating their presence in a church setting. The artwork has signs of age, such as darkened edges or creases along the border and some spots where deterioration might be visible.

At the bottom left corner of the image, there is text providing context about the piece: "SESTRI L - Chiesa di S. Nicolò dell'Isola Madonna del Buon Viaggio - Sec. XV". This suggests that the painting was created in the 15th century and refers to a church dedicated to St. Nicholas of Ischia known as the "Madonna del Buon Viaggio" (Mater de Bonis Viae) located near Sestri Levante.

The overall style and technique used indicate this could be an etching or lithograph, possibly reproducing another artwork that is lost today. The image's historical significance likely lies in its connection t [...]
