The good news is an auction of capacity from a proposed offshore floating windfarm (near Cornwall) gained two thirds of its proposed wattage in bids from two energy groups; the project will go ahead for around 3 gigawatts of renewable energy provision.

The price paid was around 90% less than a similar auction off Scotland 3 years ago indicating the shifts in the renewables market.

For anti-Royalist the bad news is the Crown estate is getting the licence money!

Good news! First full day with the new inverter online and reporting was a nice cloudless day creating a beautiful curve

Bad news! New inverter means all our past output for the last 4 years is no longer in the Solar Edge app. So no more comparing output to previous years. Rats.

Episode 106 of Crazy Town is here, and we're diving into the tragically flawed belief that we can technologize our way into a bigger and better society powered by clean energy. Join Asher, Jason, and I as we dig into the up-and-down story of the Ivanpah concentrated solar power plant, review the Harry Potteresque thinking behind complex, centralized power plants, and expose the truth of the energy transition. Not to worry, we also discuss how to make real progress on energy and sustainability.

Solar farms could be the saving of insects and birdlife.

"... much of the debate about development and the environment is wrongheaded. Suburban gardens are usually much richer in life than the fields they replace; while everyone's favourite target for development - brownfield sites in towns and cities - can be ecologically valuable too."

Is there solar panels yet that can just sit on top of a car? Mine just sits out in the sun for most of the day and I can't modify my house without a ton of paperwork since I'm in government housing. (And then spend more money to remove it when I move.)

I feel like if there could be a setup for it, it would be a nice compromise as I'm in a rural area anyway, so public transit isn't an option.

#Renewables not to blame for the #blackout

... Aagesen said operators of large #gas and #NuclearPower plants had acted "inappropriately" in not cushioning the power surges on the grid.
She added that grid operator Red Electrica did not plan electricity production with the "necessary caution" by making sure enough thermal power stations were activated when the voltage surge caused a chain reaction.

Spain Blackout.

-Renewables not blame.
-Renewables helped in recovery
-Conventional thermal plants being paid to stabilise grid didn't and make it worse.

- More grid forming inverters batteries and synchronous condensers needed.
-Needs to learn from the South Australian blackout.

A stable smart #grid and distributed, #renewables based, #energy generation open the door to some weird but interesting ideas, like peer-to-peer energy trade. We have no idea how it would look like, but we can speculate (and think of regulating).
