Our union is organizing a neighbourhood discussion in #Hochelaga on this year's #RentIncrease. The discussion will be in French, but we have a similar workshop in English coming up soon, organized by our Centre-Sud / Village tenant council (stay tuned).
The workshop in Hochelaga will be this Saturday, 12pm, at 1800 Letourneux. Childcare and food will be provided. All are welcome!
In this public meeting, we will be discussing how to start organizing with your neighbours, how to refuse increases together, and how to win negotiations with your landlord by applying pressure through collective actions for reductions in our rent increases.

First the landlord raised their rent by $1000, then when they tried to negotiate, they were punished with $7000 increase, effectively an eviction.

Great, now my rent is going up another £50, it was increased by £50 12 months ago. They actually asked me if I could afford that last time. I was going to try and reduce it, but thought they would probably increase again with new contract and thought I might be able to dodge another increase.

A hard time emotionally with my son and sister today. I don't think they quite get why I might need to move. It is hard when you're not in someone else's financial situation. It may be hard to understand the concerns of someone not wanting to go down a route that could lead to a desperate life when you don't have those same concerns.
My sister and son live close by and so it is not without some pain that Florida's catastrophic rent increases force a move farther away. I will be grateful, however, to find a dwelling where there is safety and an air conditioner.
A Florida city in my sites as my next place of residence is Gainesville. Housing is fairly reasonable if you don't mind a tiny dwelling. I've lived there before when I was married and my son was little. I wonder if I can live there without being too affected by memories of my then-difficult-marriage.
