Scholarship eligibility will be determined by our commitment to prioritising and maximising inclusion and participation for individuals impacted by the cumulative effects of discrimination—across dimensions such as race, gender, disability, gender identity, financial status and their intersections. The conference runs entirely online, across three half-days in the afternoons (Melbourne time). There’ll be talks, workshops, and a dedicated community-focused third day.

The maximum registration fee is $30 AUD, but lots of free tickets will be available to keep things accessible. Would love to see you there or feel free to pass it on to others who might be interested!

Research software is increasingly recognised as a core research output, alongside publications and datasets.

Across OECD countries, targeted reforms are supporting its development, openness, and long-term sustainability. As AI-driven research grows, a robust research software ecosystem — supported by skilled individuals, strong communities, and reliable infrastructure — is more important than ever.

Following last year’s pledge by OECD members and partner countries to advance open science through improved data management and stewardship, the OECD’s Committee for Scientific and Technological Policy (CSTP) is launching a 2025–26 project to assess progress and policy gaps in access to research software.

A key milestone will be the expert workshop:

Access to Research Software: Opportunities and Challenges

taking place on 8 September 2025 at the OECD headquarters in Paris.

Discussions will focus on governance, skills, infrastructure, sustainability, and public–private collaboration.

Dr Minh Bui, co-developer of the globally-used phylogenetics software IQ-TREE2 and winner of the inaugural ARDC Eureka Prize for Excellence in Research Software, will be delivering the #RSAA25 keynote!

Together with Professor Robert Lanfear (Australian National University), Dr Bui developed IQ-TREE2 – an open-source tool turning DNA data into evolutionary insights. It has been used to study everything from the origins of life to the spread of COVID-19.
