When I discovered Weird Al as a very young boy, I shortly thereafter became uber-obsessed with Dr. Demento.

The internet didn’t exist then, so it wasn’t easy to educate myself, short of trying to find Demento tapes and vinyl comps at the Grafton Flea Market.
That’s where I learned of Barnes And Barnes.

Bill Mumy and Robert Haimer made some of the most hilariously stupid music in the history of the medium.
“Fish Heads” is the most requested song in the history of the Dr. Demento Show, but for me, “Party In My Pants” was the Citizen Kane of moronic novelty songs.
It was like a blowjob for my dumb adolescent mind.

When I saw this excellent reissue of this album in the used bin today, I had to grab it.

I was very much all-in on The National beginning with Alligator, and up to High Violet.

After that, they made a run of three albums that I couldn’t have been any less interested in. I’ve even revisited those three numerous times, and I still feel the same way about them.

This record was the first time since High Violet that I had any kind of affection for what they were doing. It’s a really good album, as is its sister recording Laugh Track.

The version of The National that gave me songs like “Abel”, “Available” and “Mistaken For Strangers” is long gone.
This (and Laugh Track) is the best that “sleepy dad rock” National has given us.
Besides, any record that makes lyrical references to both Cowboy Junkies and The Afghan Whigs in the same song is ok with me.

BOAH! Ist. Das. Geil! 😮 Damals® auf meinem ersten Computer habe ich mit MS-DOS angefangen. Eines meiner Lieblingsgames, mit dem ich mir damals ganze Nächte um die Ohren geschlagen habe, war "Epic Pinball", das 1993 herauskam.
Ich hatte nur die Shareware-Version mit einem Tisch, aber allein die Grafik und Spielbarkeit waren für die damalige Zeit herausragend. Es hat total Spaß gemacht. 1/2

Hay muchos ejemplos de cambios en el nombre -por otro más adecuado, por el apodo, por un diminutivo...- que sientan de maravilla.

La Dani es una artista de Málaga a tiempo parcial y peluquera a tiempo completo (la cosa del artisteo está jodida no importa la época de la que hablemos). Dani es una cantante independiente de Galicia muy querida por mí, y por ende en este perfil, que ahora firma como Dani Dicostas. Mejor, así nos entendemos nítido.

Dicostas tiene en su haber algunas de mis canciones más escuchadas de estos años (Hoguera existencial), normalmente creadas a pachas con Aaron Rux.

En los mismos términos de equipo -equipillo- adelanta su nuevo trabajo con Clímax y su portada, no por simple de menos pegada. Pegada a un ventilador en to lo negro.

Y de repente un número pop exquisito.

Dani canta coqueta, resuelta, sobre un amor cegador y calentorro, tanto que no sabe si mejor <<aceleramos juntos hasta explotar>> porque eso que manejan es <<letal.>> Con el color de voz justo para ser sugerente e insinuante, Dani parece haber estudiado en la escuela de la Newton-John o Kylie, y desde ese estado febril pero ligero, sugerente, canta.

La canción, por su lado, mantiene la candidez picante en su linda melodía exquisitamente arreglada y potenciada por unas cuerdas que parecen nu-disco alternadas con unos acordes de guitarra, una base ligera que no renuncia al burbujeo y unos <<Ah>> que dan a Clímax... eso mismo.

Va letalmente certera a los sentidos.

(En ocasiones como esta me acuerdo de esa gente que sin una base dura o una batería expansiva piensan que las canciones son flojas o "inbailables". Pobreticas.)

Sí, se puede alcanzar el Clímax en menos de tres minutos. Solo se necesita saber dónde y cuánto tocar. Dani toca muy bien.

My favourite instrumental album of all time.

Took a personal day today, so I’m just going to stay home, draw and paint, and enjoy not doing anything and not moving.

This album is in the same class as the Fripp & Eno record in that it was WAAAY ahead of its time, and very important in pushing music forward into new realms, and was the very first piece of electronic music ever released by a record company. It’s even part of the Library Of Congress’ National Recording Registry.

Call it what you want. Classical, electronic, or just best-shit crazy. Whatever it is, it is a completely singular work of art from a time when literally NOTHING sounded like it.
