The scammers are evolving.
It used to be that when I managed to erroneously like a scammer, they would like me back and the profile I saw then was the same as the profile I saw initially.
However, it seems that *twice* now, I've been approached by scammers who *significantly* altered their profile between the time I gave them a like and the time we matched.
How do I know I liked them first? Because they just showed up as a match when they liked me back. If they had liked me first, they would have been in a kind of purgatory where I could have liked them back.
How do I know the profile changed?
First Case
========
The first case was a few days ago, so I don't remember all the details, but after matching I saw in her profile that she wanted to be contacted on Instagram. When I run into profiles like this, I report them. Feeld does not want people to use their platform to siphon users somewhere else. (From experience, the desire to go off platform ASAP is a sign that you are dealing with a scammer.)
I did match with the girl in this first case. She immediately started harping on her Instagram, and i unmatched and reported her right away.
Note that in addition to the mention of Instagram, I did not remember liking a person with those pictures.
The most likely explanation is that the profile changed between the time I liked it, and the time we matched.
Second Case
==========
The second case happened a few minutes ago. This time she presented as a straight girl. That's the first red flag. She was over 1000 miles away from me. Another red flag. Her profile text was empty. Another red flag. Again, looking at the pictures, I couldn't remember seeing her before. Another red flag.
Then I did a reverse image search on the first picture, and blammo! I unmatched, and reported her.
Again, the most likely explanation is that the profile was edited between the time I liked her, and the time we matched.
What's The Point
=============
I'm not sure. Maybe the scammers have a set of pictures, and a profile text that they use to bait fish. These pictures would presumably not be findable with a reverse image search, and the profile text would be appealing but not contain any dealbreakers. Then, when they have some prey, they quickly change the pictures and the text. This way they protect the original pictures.
Not sure. 🤷
