KWLT LAUNCHES 2025 SEASON

On May 20, The Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre (KWLT) held its 2025 season launch event at Revive Karaoke Bar, where they celebrated their 90th anniversary and revealed this year’s theme: community and acceptance. 

The event introduced KWLT’s upcoming shows and featured this season’s directors—Ryan Bassett, Eliza Grafton, and Elisabeth Wallis—who spoke about their productions, including You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown; The Prince and God of Carnage. 

“I’m excited to see people’s reactions to the shows we’ve picked,” Adrienne Dandy, the former president of KWLT, said. 

She was also excited for people to see the artwork that local artist Trevor Clare made to celebrate KWLT’s 90th anniversary. 

“He’s painted the theatre, and we’re doing a fundraiser where we’re getting a portion of the profits from the photographs of each print he sells,” Dandy said. 

Gaya Bin Noon, KWLT’s artistic director, said they chose this year’s theme through the artistic steering committee, which is a group of volunteers at KWLT who review all proposals sent by directors and decide on the theme. 

“We ask members of our community to submit their ideas and artistic visions. So, we review all the proposals and read all the scripts. It’s a couple of months of intense work,” Bin Noon said. “It’s a very collaborative process.” 

“We’re expecting about 60 people at the event, and we bring everyone together in a room and announce any initiatives we’re trying to put together that are different from the main stage shows,” Victoria Robertson, the vice president of the KWLT, said. 

She also said the season consists of three main performances and four smaller shows. Each show is a three-month commitment with nine showings. The fall show is about being lost and figuring out who you are, the middle show is about finding community and discovering personal identity, and the third show is a big celebration between friends. 

“I’m excited for all three, and we’re putting together a couple of other experimental things,” Robertson said. 

In addition to its mainstage season, KWLT plans to launch several initiatives to increase community engagement across Waterloo. These initiatives include March Madness (a theatre competition), Popcorn Plays and next year’s New Works Festival. These events will offer newcomers and seasoned artists opportunities to get involved in shorter productions. 

For the launch event, the News Works Collective, a free community playwriting circle, worked alongside KWLT as part of this season’s studio series, where members of the collective could write and direct a play for KWLT. 

“The New Works Collective is meeting regularly throughout the season, and we will stage works that our members wrote,” Morgan Anderson, co-founder of the New Works Collective, said. 

As KWLT enters its 90th year, it invites community members—whether seasoned performers or curious newcomers—to participate in a season centred around connection and acceptance.

Ok, the Automatons variant for #Revive, posted on #BoardGameGeek is boss. I can't ever see myself going to the out of the box solo method. It feels so much more natural not having a limit of a combination of card plays and hibernate.

Sure, it has more upkeep but it wasn't horrible and if you've any design from the Automa Factory, you'll find this similar.

I played on the easier difficulty and won by 8 points so I think I will keep that difficulty while I try other tribes. #BoardGames

I am 3 solo #games into the #Revive campaign. I know that I haven't "unlocked" every module yet, but my scores are varying wildly based on the tribe I've been. I hope that it evens out once everything is opened up. I wouldn't want multi player to be so dependent on which tribe someone one, or get pigeonholed into a single tribe while doing solo plays.

Any thoughts?

Das war mein #Spielemonat Februar.

Highlight war #WeimarDerKampfUmDieDemokratie - ein sehr schön thematisches Spiel das aber recht kleinteilig daher kommt und mit 6h Spieldauer einiges an Commitment erfordert. Will ich aber unbedingt nochmal spielen. Geschichtsstunde mal anders.

#BierPioniere war bisher komplett an mir vorbei gegangen, ist ein solides Euro, auch schön thematisch, relativ zugänglich - aber nichts was ich unbedingt brauche.

#Village konnte ich auch endlich mal spielen, angenehme Balance zwischen Einfachheit der Regeln und Komplexität der Spielzüge.

Auch mit #Glow und #5Towers habe ich ein paar Einträge auf der Will-ich-spielen-Liste abhaken können.

#Scythe war meine zweite Partie und ich finde langsam gefallen daran. Und ich konnte endlich meinen Mann zu #Revive überreden 😜

Das war mein #BrettspieleMonat Januar.

Etliches was ich noch nicht kannte kam auf den Tisch wie #Barcelona, #EmpiresOfTheNorth und in #EarthborneRangers durfte ich endlich mal rein schnuppern. #Revive ist nach wie vor beliebt bei uns.

Bei #DerSiebteKontinent gurken wir immer noch beim gleichen Fluch rum und es nimmt kein Ende. Aber wir nehmen es gelassen. Ich denke aber ich werde da sehr wahrscheinlich keine Erweiterungsflüche mehr kaufen. #The7thCitadel sollte ja auch irgendwann eintrudeln.

#Mlem hat gar nicht zu mir gesprochen, aber #Trio fand ich gut.

Nach einer schönen Parties #Revive zu zweit, kam mit #AufdieNüsse! das letzte ungespielte Spiel meiner Sammlung auf'n Tisch. Viel ist eh nie ungespielt aber dennoch schön, wenn die Liste leer ist. 😊
Es war tatsächlich witziger als gedacht - sogar zu 2. Sehe das Potential in na 4er Runde als mini Absacker/Hosentaschenspiel. Wenig downtime und schöne Balance zwischen Glück und Schmach.
Jetzt gibts noch 2-3 ungespielte (mini) Erweiterungen. Mal sehen wann die es auf den Tisch schaffen. #Brettspiele

Et le deuxième jeu de la soirée fut #revive.
Jeu de gestion aussi, avec des mécaniques chouettes et plein de manières de faire les points.
Par contre le design est a mon sens problématique: pas assez de contraste et les couleurs presque pastel ne permettent une lisibilité fluide, trop de picto trop petit et pas super compréhensibles 😒

Heute gab es nach vielen vielen Partien #Scythe Mal wieder #Revive und ich bin hyped. Thematisch: Wir haben die nächste Eiszeit überlebt, krabbeln aus unserer Höhle und besiedeln die Welt neu. Optisch der Hammer, mechanisch auch. Und das verrückte: alle Mitspieler bekommen am Ende für unterschiedliche Dinge Punkte, trotzdem lagen zwischen erstem und letztem Platz vorhin nur 4 Punkte. Macht definitiv Lust auf Mehr!!

Gestern gab es wieder #Revive - haben zum ersten Mal die Erweiterung mit auf dem Tisch gehabt. Mein Stamm, die Ostarius, zeigten sich spröde und mit wenig Willen zur Macht. 😒

Die muss ich wohl noch ein paar Mal spielen, um sie zu verstehen. Das gestern war jedenfalls eine Vollkatastrophe.

Dennoch gefällt mir #RufAusDerTiefe ganz gut. Erhöht die Komplexität, je nach gespielten Stamm, nochmal deutlich und bringt mehr Abwechslung. Ist vielleicht nicht unbedingt ein Pflichtkauf wie #Wasserwelten bei #ArcheNova, aber falsch macht man damit auch nichts, wenn man Revive mag.
