Lost City Rises Again
A submerged city off India's coast, possibly from 7000 BC, is forcing archaeologists to rethink early human history. Pottery, skeletons, and urban planning—centuries ahead of what was thought possible.

The slow indoctrination begins. If Steve asked the same questions to young Russians in thirty years, I wonder what answers he’d get?
Steve Rosenberg’s past exploits make him a top journalist in my opinion. Anyone gutsy enough to ask Putin inflammatory questions head on in fluent Russian is definitely worth listening to.

Welcome to the Ministry of Culture: Where Art Goes to Die Quietly in a Patriotically Approved Corner

Nothing screams ā€œfreedomā€ quite like the government telling museums which stories are too real and which artists are too brown.

In the latest installment of ā€œMake Art Great Again,ā€ Trump’s regime has decided that cultural institutions like the Smithsonian and the Kennedy Center are just a little too independent. Can’t have artists running around making people think or, doG forbid, reflect. So out goes ā€œThe Shape of Powerā€ exhibit for being ā€œdivisive,ā€ and in comes a new aesthetic: Norman Rockwell, but make it autocratic.

The Smithsonian’s been told to clean house, and we all know what that means. Anything that centers race, systemic injustice, queer identity, or uncomfortable truths gets quietly repatriated to oblivion. Meanwhile, the Kennedy Center has seen its Social Impact team dismantled and its Artistic Director fired; for what? Caring too much about actual impact. Apparently, art that speaks to society is now ā€œinappropriate.ā€ Unless, of course, it’s glorifying flags, founding fathers, or folks who’ve never had to protest anything other than brunch prices.

We’ve seen this playbook before. It ran in Germany. It aired in Italy. It sold out stadiums in 1930s Europe. Authoritarian regimes don’t hate art—they just hate art they can’t control. And now, in 2025 America, the long knives have been replaced by executive orders and budget cuts.

Let’s be clear: this isn’t just a culture war. It’s a cultural purge; a forced rewriting of national memory, where history gets edited with the same grace and subtlety as a Soviet photo archive.

You might think, ā€œWell, they’re just targeting a few exhibits or programs.ā€ But this is death by a thousand redactions. A chilling signal to artists, curators, and institutions: Comply or be cut. Conform or be canceled (ironically, by the same people who whine about cancel culture between golf rounds and grift emails).

The real tragedy? We’re watching it happen in real time—this gutting of public arts, this sanitizing of culture—and people are still asking, ā€œBut isn’t this just about restoring balance?ā€ Sure. If by balance you mean tipping everything into the sea and lighting it on fire.

So here’s to the brave artists who refuse to be scrubbed out of history, and to the rest of us: wake up. Because the last time governments told museums what they could show, the world got a lot darker. And no one’s commissioning murals about that. #ArtsAndCulture #Censorship #FreedomOfExpression #CulturalHeritage #MuseumLeadership #ArtsAdvocacy #HumanRights #PublicPolicy #CreativeFreedom #LeadershipInCrisis #DefendTheArts #HistoricalNarrative #SocialImpact #CivicEngagement #Smithsonian #KennedyCenter #Authoritarianism #RewritingHistory #ArtMatters #voicesthatmatter

"That’s why the Alberta document is really just despicable.

It’s a complete insult to so many people who sacrificed so much doing everything they could to keep people alive while their work was sabotaged and undermined by information spread by some of the people in this document."

Myth of #Thanksgiving

"Paula Peters, a citizen of the #MashpeeWampanoag Tribe and independent scholar of the history of the #Wampanoag, said the notion that it was just a harmonious celebration is partly a myth.

"'There wasn't an invitation extended to invite the Wampanoag to come and feast with them,' Peters previously told USA TODAY. 'It was really quite by accident, that there were any shared festivities at all.'

"The pilgrims were celebrating their first harvest when they fired off muskets repeatedly, a form of entertainment for the settlers.

"Hearing the blasts, the Wampanoag thought it was a threat. The supreme leader Massasoit Ousamequin assembled a small army of approximately 90 warriors and approached the settlement, much to the surprise of the pilgrims.

"After de-escalating the situation, the pilgrims and the Wampanoag feasted together, though historical texts don't indicate what they might have eaten besides deer hunted by the Wampanoag, as Peters writes in an introduction to 'Of Plimoth Plantation.'

"'The contemporary holiday perpetuates the myths of the Wampanoag and Pilgrim relations,' Peters writes in the book. 'It conjures up Hallmark images of happy Natives and Pilgrims feasting on a cornucopia of corn, pies, and meats, including a fully dressed roast turkey.'"

I told a group of young scientists what #JFK was saying in German in his historic speach, where he said "ich bin ein Berliner".

So, it basically means: I am a donut.

Well šŸ™„ a Berliner is a Donut filled with marmelade. Maybe it was to relax the situation. The Kuban missile crisis.

Welp, the new Republican Congress just censured Rep Adam Schiff for supposedly bringing ā€œdisrepute on the Houseā€ (šŸ‘€ā‰ļø) in previous Congresses. The censure resolution (especially the first one that even the Repubs couldn’t stomach) reads like a greatest hits of trump’s malevolent tweets against Schiff.
As Bill Barr notoriously said, ā€œHistory is written by the winners.ā€

DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson says 'fundamental change of attitude' needed from EU on NI protocol

Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, the DUP leader, has said that a ā€œfundamental change of attitudeā€ is needed from the EU to secure an agreement on reform of the Northern Ireland protocol.

In a statement issued in response to Leo Varadkar, the taoiseach, saying the original protocol was too strict (see 1.06pm), Donaldson said:

A4 The protocol was not, is not and will not be supported by unionists.

It was a mistake for its authors to press ahead with an agreement that has harmed Northern Ireland’s constitutional and economic place within the United Kingdom. Whilst Mr Varadkar’s comments indicate he now recognises the political reality in Northern Ireland, we need to see a fundamental change of attitude in the negotiations if we are to see an outcome that is durable.

According to polling from last year, Donaldson is right to say that unionists do not support the protocol - although there is a huge difference between people who identify as strongly unionist, who mostly fiercely oppose the protocol, and people who identify as only slightly unionist, who still object to it, but less
