True absurdity is owning an Acorn A5000 with a 42.5MHz ARM3 instruction clock, 16.67MHz RAM clock, two MEMCs, 8MB RAM, Ethernet, SCSI... and hopefully later this week a Transputer Development System card.
I've benchmarked this machine. It holds its own very well against a RISC PC 600 (33MHz ARM610).

- Not shure why anyone would choose #RiscOS in 2026 and it's "Cooperative Multitasking" but maybe a 'mature codebase' makes it more interesting. Similar to #OpenVMS ¹, #QNX ², #VxWorks ³ and #WindRiverLinux ⁴ trying to increase adoption by those that demand a more hardened and deterministic performing OS…

@dawid excluding the ZX Spectrum's basic window, it would be #RISCos on the #acornarchimedes which we used on my middle school computers 1992-1996. Then I think windows 3.11, but still have a soft spot for the Archimedes since very few people outside the UK know about it (despite it being the start of the ARM processor) and have dabbled with the raspberry pi version a little.
Linux wise, Xandros on the eeepc in early 2008, then Ubuntu something which I gave up on with gnome 3 came in.
Threw some code together for a #riscos Ghidra Analyzer plugin last night. It reads the OSLib swi definitions and applies them to the swi instructions, so they're easier to follow.
I'm also looking at an AIF loader with Unsqueeze support and a Module loader that I might merge into Cameron Cawley's AIF loader and submit a PR.

I've been having a chat with a geeky friend and the topic of #linux came up and then desktop environments. I mentioned I am a big #kde user (he is Gnome) and his first thought is 'you want it familiar to windows like you've always used' Possibly? But then we nattered about old computers and I realised, long before I ever had my own pc, for four years the GUI I used (from 8-12) was #riscos - I grew up using #acornarchimedes at school long before windows and perhaps KDE reminds me of that *shrug*
