On this date in 1979, the band Marshmallow Suicide Dream released their first album, “Other People’s Music,” in which they took discarded pieces of audio tape left by other artists on the studio cutting room floor and spliced them together to create a disjointed track of sound that critics called “Awful.” When they played live, MSD never made any of their own sound - they just passed the microphones around and poked the audience members with sharp utensils.
