On this day 32 years ago in 1992, "RoboCop" premiered.

RoboCop is often described as an over-the-top action movie. Sure, you can describe it that way, because on the surface it is. But, you can dig a bit deeper. RoboCop has some gut-wrenching scenes of a man attempting to recapture his humanity.

I normally post action scenes, but I'll post a more sombre scene from RoboCop today.

At one point, Rachel Bissex was thinking of rerecording some of her early songs. She asked people on her mailing list for suggestions. I listened to her early albums and picked "Beauty in the Dark." Whether or not Rachel planned to use it, I do not know; but she expressed definite interest in the idea.

Rachel was very broadly informed about music goings-on in and around Burlington, Vermont. When I was putting out a newsletter about New England popular music, Rachel was my go-to person for northern Vermont information.

Rachel may have been best known for "Drive All Night." She is paid fond tribute on the various artists collection, "Remembering Rachel." Its cover illustration is very pretty.

I think it's a funny parallel that Senator #RobertKinsey on #SG1, played by #RonnyCox, kept the #Stargate team waiting.
A tactic his other well known character on #StarTrek #TheNextGeneration, #EdwardJellico, had also used on the Cardassians, a couple years earlier. 😅

Both Aliens and Total Recall use flat screens depicting idealistic scenes of nature. These scenes were futuristic for their time.

It's worth noting that something which seemed so futuristic back then have now become commonplace.

To celebrate the birthday of Paul Verhoeven, please enjoy Arnold Schwarzenegger using an innocent bystander as a meat shield. This scene from Total Recall is also up there on the top 10 use of squibs.

Up next is the classic "RoboCop" boardroom scene. The inherent dark humor of ED-209 not understanding a command and proceeding to obliterate a corporate suit is one of the movies more memorable scenes. But, this guy worked for OCP, so he probably had it coming anyway.

This could also be a contender for the most over-the-top use of squibs in any movie.

Total Recall turns 33 years old today. It premiered back in 1990.

Based off "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" penned by Philip K. Dick, it earned $260+ million dollars.

It did get a 2012 remake, but I think it's safe to say the original is better received.

Our first solid piece of story information in "Total Recall" that Douglas Quaid isn't who he seems to be is the way he manages to kill would be assassins in cold-blooded efficiency.

The film kicks into high gear from here on out, living up to the of "Get ready for the ride of your life" tagline.
