I recently unpacked a box I packed seven years and two moves ago and found my 2014 Arthur C. Clarke Foundation award for the ESA Rosetta mission. It brought back some good memories.

So apparently #Apple will be sunsetting #Rosetta 2 in #MacOS 27 release. With the mindset, that since Intel Macs will not be supported anymore, nobody will use them, and aaaaaaall the developers in the world will instantly port their applications to #ARM and #Metal.
Not to be the harbinger of doom here, but this is the same mindset #Valve had with #Steam Machines, that suddenly everyone will port their games to #Linux. And remember how this ended up?

Space Journey / Rosetta

Risograph based on the trajectory of the ESA probe “Rosetta”, which was send into space in 2004 to explore the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko and crashed on the comet’s surface in 2016 after the mission was completed.

The work was realized during an Artist-in-Science Residency of the artist at the European Space Agency (ESA) hosted by Kultur einer Digitalstadt in Darmstadt in 2022.

The print was produced by Herr und Frau Rio in Munich and is a limited, signed and numbered edition.

Risograph based on the trajectory of the ESA probe “Rosetta”, which was sent in 2004 to explore the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko and crashed on the comet’s surface in 2016 after the mission was completed. We see a line tracing the trajectory of ESA's Rosetta probe. The line first forms a large oval circle, which becomes increasingly dense in the left third of the page. The line is drawn three times (blue, orange, and yellow) and placed on a white sheet in landscape format.

Well, this has been my smoothest arm experience yet.

Download a generic arm64 iso, boot to it, install. Nice.

NixOS 25.05 on gnome works great. And nearly all of my apps work as well.

Sadly #gitkraken and #Spotify both seem to have no arm64 builds :(. Two apps I do use on a daily basis.

Wonder If it's possible to run it via emulation, or help these packages to get native.

That is a good question. Is there something like #Rosetta for #linux ?

I have titled this project "The Invaders." It’s a collection of freeform three-dimensional interpretations of landers (machines designed to land on the surface of a celestial body) created by space agencies.

The models are closer to a DIY project than a symbol of high technology. They serve as a reminder to put our sense of triumph or progress into perspective and reconnect with the fragility of our human condition.

This craft draws inspiration from the design of Philae, the ESA lander that embarked in 2015 to explore comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.

As my Apple Silicon adventures continue, I discovered another quirk today. Apparently if your DAW isn't running using Rosetta, none of the plugins that require Rosetta will be available. However I'm not sure this really applies anymore, since all of my Plugin Alliance plugins show up & I know that none of them have been ported to Apple Silicon. The page was created for 1st generation M1 processors, so perhaps at generation 5 (M5's) this no longer applies.
