HMS Sir John Moore was one of eight Lord Clive-class monitors built for the Royal Navy in 1915 to conduct shore bombardments during the First World War. A Royal Navy midget submarine known as an X-craft undergoes testing - East coast of England, 1944. The X-craft carried out some notable operations including one on the German battleship Tirpitz on 23rd Sept 1943 in Kaafjord, Norway. The one pictured is the XE8 "Expunger" which was an improved version of the X.

896 NAS reformed at Wingfield, Cape Town on 9. January 1945 equipped with 24 Hellcat Mk.II fighters. The squadron embarked on HMS Ameer in April 1945. In July fighter cover and bombing were undertaken during operations in the Car Nicobar area, then 896 NAS transferred to HMS Empress to provide fighter patrols during minesweeping operations off Pluket Island Thailand later in the same month. Following VJ-Day, support was provided in early September during occupation of the Malayan Peninsula, then the ship retuned home and the squadron disbanded on arrival on 19. December 1945.

This is a black and white maritime photo of an aircraft carrier leaving harbour and undertow by a immaculately clean, large tug. In the foreground and rising upwards about one third of the image is a mass of dark grey and calm water. In the lower left corner is a large tug underway from right to left. The tug is clean, smart with a black hull but with a large white wrap-around fender on the bow with two parallel white rubbing strakes surrounding the hull. On top is a 'control tower' like wheelhouse with large darkened windows and a tall signal mast on top with numerous antennae. A short distance behind the tug, about ten metres and attached with a taut and stout line is an aircraft carrier. The vessel is rendered a light grey and lit by the bright sun light. The flight deck overhangs the hull on both side. On the port side and over the bow is the distinctive ski-jump ramp. On the starboard side of the flight deck are the two 'islands', the forward one for ship operations the aft one for aerial operations. On either side of the flight deck are a few of the crew. Behind the carrier is the scene of a large harbour with many moored sailing boats. Above is a clear and cloudless sky rendered a medium grey. HMS Agincourt was a battleship originally builtfor Brazil, but sold to the Ottoman Empire and then seized by the UK at the start of WWI. She holds the distinction of mounting more heavy guns (fourteen) and more turrets (seven) than any other dreadnought battleship. Royal Navy Battleship HMS Canada. HMS Canada was originally ordered by Chile as the Almirante Latorre in 1911. With the outbreak of World War One, the battleship was purchased by Britain, where it served with the Royal Navy, seeing action at the Battle of Jutland. The ship was to have been named Reşadiye when she entered service with the Ottoman Navy. The Reşadiye class was designed to be at least the equal of any other ship afloat or under construction.

Aside from a minor role in the Battle of Jutland in May 1916 and the inconclusive Action of 19 August the same year, Erin’s service during the war generally consisted of routine patrols and training in the North Sea. The ship was deemed obsolete after the war; she was reduced to reserve and used as a training ship. Erin served as the flagship of the reserve fleet at the Nore for most of 1920.
