A photograph of part of Space Launch Complex 37B. At the bottom of the frame are green trees and scrub land, above which power lines are strung. Behind them and reaching past the top of the frame is a white tower. The lower section is open and a single orange cylinder can be seen inside, which is a Delta 4 rocket core. The upper part of the building is closed in by doors that slide sideways to open. There are two tall truss towers on either side of the white tower, and a truss building just on its left side with connections reaching to the rocket inside the white tower.

United Launch Alliance’s #Delta IV #rocket launches from Cape #Canaveral pad SLC-37B.
The military originally planned to build another set of Saturn I launch sites, but that vehicle’s production was stopped.
When Boeing needed a site for their new rocket, #SLC37B was chosen.
In this #landscape #photograph, it’s possible to see the white Mobile Service Structure that houses the rocket until the night before #launch, as well as the fixed umbilical tower, which provides the vehicle with fuel and other materials from the ground reflected in the #pond in the foreground.

*It’s believed to be an Advanced Orion/Mentor signals intelligence satellite designated Orion-8.

An outdoor, daytime photograph of a Delta 4 Heavy rocket, a triple-cored rocket with cylindrical, orange cores and a white cylinder and fairing above that. The rocket is beginning to rise off its launch pad and the bright flames and exhaust of the engines builds up under and behind the rocket. There is a gray Fixed Umbilical tower with truss connections swinging away from the rocket. There are two tall, truss towers on either side of the rocket. There is a building behind the rocket that has a gap cut out that is clearly designed to accommodate the rocket. Green scrub, grass, and blue water separate the camera from the rocket.

Before most #rocket #launches, the press office allows #media and #photographers to the #pad to set #RemoteCameras, cameras that are triggered by sound or a timer to catch shots closer to the #rocket than a person could survive.

After the launch, the photographers collect their cameras, if they survived, and review the images.

This was taken the night before a #Delta IV Heavy launch, during remote setup.

An outdoor, evening time photograph of a grassy hill on the left side of the image and a paved road on the right. In the middle, behind the hill, is a Delta 4 Heavy rocket. It has three orange cylinder-shaped booster strapped together side-by-side. They are brigh orange with a white stripe across the top third. The two outer booster have a white nose cone while the center booster has an upper stage and payload fairing, both white. The rocket sits on a concrete pad, and a gray tower extends multiple connections to the rocket. Behind it is a white tower with a gap that the rocket clearly fits inside of. On either side of the rocket there are two truss towers.

An outdoor, daytime photograph of a Delta 4 rocket lifting off from its launch pad. It has 3 orange cylinders side-by-side with a taller center that has the upper stage and payload fairing. A column of fire is pouring from the 3 engines, one on each core. A cloud of smoke rises behind the rocket. Two tall truss towers, a shorter truss tower, and a white building with an opening cut out for the rocket surround the pad. At the bottom of the frame is calm water.

Service Tower that sits over the pad and helps stack the rocket and protect it from weather.
At launch time, it rolls back, leaving the rocket exposed and ready to launch.
The gray Fixed Umbilical tower on the left of the Mobile Service Tower serves as an umbilical support providing the rocket with LOX and LH2 until launch.
The two towers on either side of the Mobile Service Tower are Lighting Arrestor Towers.
The #Florida scrubland can be seen at the bottom of the image, as well as the Banana River.
