#SM750

@NanoRaptor well, "#shitpost" aside there are #CardBus cards that do #PCI and PCI -> PCIe - chips like the #PEX8112 are common so it should be possible to just go CardBus -> #ExpressCard -> #PCIe.

So the only absurd thing is the pictured miniaturization, which will likely take 10-25 years to reach that small spacial & thermal envelope.

@rl_dane @OS1337 Unlike bare-metal support for old #DirectX versions I am convinced #MDA will stay for multiple reasons:

  • Everything from the simplest #BIOS to most expensive commercial #UNIX rely on it for local outputs so much so that even the cheapest GPU one can buy new (#SiliconMotion #SM750) and every #BMC / #iKVM needs to support it.

Like I'm convinced it's economical suicide if any vendor decides to brick early boot messages on #RHEL, #SLES, etc. for no valid reason.

  • Also MDA is the simplest mode and even if done entirely in Firmware on the GPU will be performant enough to deliver 60Hz & 60fps constantly.

Like I'm surprised noone has built a "LOM Card" to offer hardware-independent iKVM/BMC & #LOM capabilities to any system with like a (Mini-)PCIe (x1) slot...

@jhwgh1968 most likely some of the NVS cards will fit the bill, as they are simple multi-display GPUs that are optimized for multi-screen setups and being efficient before powerful, using mostly older designs...

Otherwise there are some #SM750-based 2D GPUs from manufacturers like sunix with a PCIe x1 interface.

You can find then for as little as €10 a piece new...

In case you don't want to pay $40 on a new-old-stock GT210 and dremel it.

All those #scalpers for #GPU's and #Consoles should be forced to only have machines with an #SM750 "GPU" that has 16MB (!) of VRAM for the rest of their lives...

Just so that they get to feel what's like being shafted by #ValueRemoving #RentSeekers...
