@FrChazzz I would agree that #marriage isn’t a #sacrament to us the way that it is to Catholics. But that doesn’t mean that the only alternative is that it’s something “we came up with.” While it has taken different forms based on culture and legal systems, marriage is something God created and the basic elements of it, the intent and pattern of it, are found in #scripture. It is never same-sex in the Bible, always hetero. I would say that marriage is #ordained.

5/ And if Christian marriage, as a #sacrament (and as articulated by #Aquinas), involves the couple offering up their bodies as mutually-received sacrifices, transformed into "one flesh" and as a locale for the Holy Spirit to work God's grace—reflecting the work of God in the #eucharist—then we have to consider if a same-sex union is consistent with that teaching. It is my conviction that it is.

1) It's required for Catholics for the forgiveness of mortal sin, a grave action performed with full knowledge of its gravity and with the full consent of the will. Committing a mortal sin breaks our relationship with God.
