Why does it have to be free and even more important, why does it have to be Android?

#SailfishOS by #Jolla for instance is largely open source and yet it helps people pay for their rents and although you can run Android apps on it, you're as far out of Google's reach as possible!

In the end, Android may be open source on paper, but Google still is the main contributor and can stall the project and they try to keep you in their sphere of influence, which Jolla doesn't.

Today I updated my #SailfishOS phones to 5.0.0.68.

Just spent a few evenings switching to a new phone. This time I went from #Jolla #SailfishOS on #Xperia10III to #GrapheneOS running on #Pixel9a.

I've been daily driving the previous phone for three years! Mostly it has been OK, and I love the UI and native side of things, but many times the Android sandbox made me want to rip my hair out 😬

Graphene should help to mitigate the most glaring privacy and security issues of stock android. I hope atleast

Definitiv ein unterstützenswertes Produkt/Unternehmen! Und auf jeden Fall ein weiterer Schritt weg von der amerikanischen Dominanz, denn auch ent-googletes Android bleibt Android: der größte Teil, auch des Open Source-Codes, kommt letztlich doch von Google und die tun einiges um auch die Benutzer solcher Systeme doch wieder in ihre Einflusssphäre zu ziehen.
