#NewSpecies of #PirateSpiders discovered on South Atlantic island nhm.ac.uk/discover/news/2024/f

Two new sympatric species of the pirate #spider genus Ero C.L. Koch, 1836 from the cloud forest of #SaintHelena Island, South Atlantic Ocean europeanjournaloftaxonomy.eu/i

"Having been confused for a closely related species, the 2 new #spiders have been hiding out on #StHelena for decades. Now newly recognised, it’s hoped the spiders will provide added impetus to preserve the island’s threatened #CloudForest."

For the week that’s in it - perhaps #Turner’s strangest painting, ‘War: The Exile and the Rock Limpet’ - painted 20 years after the death of #Napoleon on #SaintHelena but shortly after his reinterment at Les Invalides #TateBritain

This is La Scala Santa in Rome. According to an ancient Christian tradition, Saint Helena, the mother of Constantine, had the stairs transported from Pontius Pilate’s palace in Jerusalem to Rome. It is believed that Jesus climbed these stairs several times the day he was sentenced to death, thus, they are known as the “Scala Pilati” or “Scala Sancta” (the Holy Stairs or Pilate’s Stairs). At the top of the stairs is the Sancta Sanctorum. I was here in 2022.

Location: Lateran Palace (Rome, Italy)
