Saturday night playlist.
Here's a list of some of the music I've been listening to this evening.
The Beatles, "Back in the USSR."
(I don't see any pro-communist sympathies in this rollicking song. What I do see is something of a tribute to the "surf" music genre that was popular in the 1960s.)

Led Zeppelin, "Rock and Roll."
(Maybe the best song for driving ever made.)

REM, "Radio Free Europe."
(In your face, you commie bastards! This song was in my head as my brother and I watched the TV news coverage of the fall of the Berlin Wall–"Die Mauer"--fall in November 1989. The drum sequence at 3:39 kicks some serious ass.)

The Beach Boys, "Shut Down."
Vrrooom!

Slim Dusty, "Waltzing Matilda."
(Hell yeah, I'm in a defiant state of mind.)

Slim Dusty, "Charleville."
(A little bit o' country music from our mates Down Under)

Gordon Lightfoot, "Canadian Railroad Trilogy."
(I've read a little about the men who built the trans-Canada railroad. They made huge sacrifices to build that massive railroad. Some of the men were from China, and never were able to afford to return to their homes. It's a powerful piece of North American history.)

The Kingston Trio, "The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy."

The Kingston Trio, "Erie Canal."

Georg Friedrich Handel, "Halleluiah" chorus, from "The Messiah" oratorio, during the pandemic.

Windsor Castle Guards, "The Star-spangled Banner" (to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11).

Hoosli Ukrainian Male Choir, Ukrainian and Canadian national anthems (at Winnipeg Jets hockey game)

Mirelle Mathieu, "La Marseillaise" (national anthem of France).
https://youtu.be/SIxOl1EraXA
Ludwig van Beethoven, "Symphony No. 7, Fourth Movement."
(In my Music 101 class at DePaul University, part of the final exam was to write an essay about this musical gem.)

Wichita State School of Music, "Song for a Winter's Night."
