Quiet Dawn
Early November at 10am and the sun is rising over Pollurinn, just outside Akureyri.
A storm is brewing, but there was no sign of it yet. We were supposed to take a flight back to Reykjavik but all were cancelled, and we had to drive through it for 6 hours.

Bass
The Bass Rock is an island in the outer part of the Firth of Forth in the east of #Scotland. Approximately 2 km (1 mi) offshore, and 5 km (3 mi) north-east of North Berwick, it is a steep-sided volcanic plug, 107 m (351 ft) at its highest point, and is home to a huge colony of gannets.
At high zoom, the true density of the bird colony is obvious.

Snow Eggs
A beautiful day in Höfn, and the sunlight casts shadows across the mountain faces.
And the title? Our little joke. The first time we saw the white plastic-wrapped bales of winter fodder, we decided that they must be snow waiting to hatch!

Riding The Ice Boat
Crossing the Fjallsárlón¹ glacial lagoon towards the calving snout of Fjallsjökull glacier, the rippling ice dropping slowly to meet the water. We didn't approach much closer than this to the undulating 5 to 15 metre (15-50ft) vertical face due to the risk of collapse.

I've been using #SaturdayScenery for a while! Maybe we should join forces and start a trend! 😆

You May
Taking the ferry back to Anstruther on a gorgeous July day, after a short visit to see puffins, guillemots, razorbills, shags, cormorants and terns.
The Isle of May, around 1.5 km long and 0.5 km wide. In the north of the outer Firth of Forth and approximately 8 km off the coast of mainland #Scotland.
Balmerino Abbey
Last Thursday, we drove up to and along the shores of the River Tay. Our main goal was a ruined abbey in the lovely village of Balmerino.
It was a gorgeous February day, cold but with bright sunshine and blue skies. The snowdrops were brightening the grass beneath the trees, the moon was rising, and the honey coloured stones of the old abbey spoke of history.
Magical.
Falls of Dochart
Mid-June, and the river banks are lush and green. This old tree, still alive and thriving, made a perfect frame for my shot of the top rapids.
The river’s source is the 1130 metres of the Munroe Ben Lui, the water flows 21 km east from Loch Dochart and into Loch Tay.
Killin in Perthshire, #Scotland.
Happy Accident
8am in mid-November, still quite dark and we were just leaving the hotel. The moon was rising above the glaciers so I stopped to take a shot of it.
What I hadn't realised was that I'd left the camera settings I'd used for aurora the night before. As a result this is a long exposure and, I think, it works rather well.

One of the beauties of #Iceland is that stunning scenery like this is so easily accessible.
This is Seljalandsfoss in southern Iceland, 60 m/197 ft of pure gorgeousness, situated a short walk from the main ring-road Route 1. There a cave behind it which visitors can enter in summer, but this was taken in March when it was closed.
