I’m looking into the 1840-1841 scarlet fever (#scarlatina) epidemic that was killing many children in Arfon, Wrexham, Brecknock and Bristol, including three children of great great grandparents of mine. I’d be interested in information about it in these and other places in and close to #Wales #Cymru #scarletfever
There a little village called Betws Garmon, immediately WNW of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). I’ve been looking at its church’s register of burials. From 7.4.1840 to 24.2.1841, 30 people were buried in the churchyard. 22 of these were children aged 8 or under who died of scarlet fever. Three of these were children of my great great grandparents Hugh & Catherine Roberts.
Does anybody have information on the scarlet fever epidemic in #Gwynedd in 1840 and 1841? #Cymru #Wales #Waunfawr #ScarletFever
#Italy is reporting a big surge in cases of Group A Streptococcus infection (#GAS) included #Scarletfever, https://www.ilfattoquotidiano.it/2023/04/20/boom-di-casi-di-faringotonsillite-e-scarlattina-tutta-colpa-dello-streptococco-il-ministero-della-salute-lancia-lallarme-ecco-i-sintomi/7134580/
If you're worried about Strep A or scarlet fever this is a useful rundown of the symptoms and how to treat them.

After a 3 year hiatus, I received a letter yesterday inviting me to attend Eye Clinic later this month at a local general hospital. Given the situation with flu, COVID-19, scarlet fever, etc., I’m astonished that mask-wearing is not mentioned at all. The only warnings are that non-attendance will result in discharge and automated reminder alerts will be sent. 😡

Indeed, we should have learnt something from the #pandemic. #facemasks reduce the spread, if you are infected and need to go somewhere. #COVID19 #flu #RSV #RSVirus #StrepA #scarletfever #Streptococcus
UKHSA warns adults to 'stay home' or 'wear face covering' when going out if feeling unwell
Professor Susan Hopkins, chief medical adviser at the UKHSA, listed numerous precautions in order to limit the spread of illness, as cases of scarlet fever and COVID-19 circulate at "high levels".

New pre-print from UK public health folk - the childhood #influenza #vaccine may offer some level of protection against #strepA infections
My 7 year old son has #fever, #cough & lethargy...took him to #GP & was prescribed #amoxicillan for a chest infection & as he has some #ScarletFever & #StrepA symptoms.
I had to then ring around to see if any local pharmacies had any amoxicillan left as there is such a shortage.
A mum was crying in there as she couldn't get the medicine she needed for her penicillin allergic sick child.
GP said it's the worst she has seen the #NHS in 19 years including during covid. #ToryCriminals #SaveOurNHS
People at my work are dropping like flies and it's not #COVID19. I had to share a meeting room all day yesterday for a workshop with people who were continually coughing.
Plus there is now #ScarletFever reported at my 7 year old son''s school. I feel powerless to do anything about it and it's only a matter of time until me and my family is also sick.
Anyone else feel the same?
Oh and by the way happy #FollowBackFriday #FBPE #FBPA #RejoinEU #SingleMarket
Uh, how long does it take to actually not be infectious with #ScarletFever? 24 hours seems awfully quick.
"Any child or staff member who develops scarlet fever should stay off school until 24 hours after their first
dose of antibiotics."
Then again the same policy document says kids get three days after a positive covid test but adults get five. I guess kids are just magically getting shorter infectious periods 🙄
A short tutorial video on Strep A infections (formally called Scarlet Fever) and recognise the symptoms, from a UK clinician 😕
Straightforward presentation with enough information for you to recognise the symptoms and when to seek treatment 🙂

I don't know if this video will be useful to people who are worried about #StrepA, but I have always found #DrJohnCampbell produces very informative videos on his channel and he always references good sources of data

Well it looks like our Government is gaslighting us yet again.
A few days ago their client journalists at the BBC were reporting that there was no shortage of antibiotics in UK.
Now I am seeing reports of shortages in Northern Ireland and Suffolk.
