I think the "streamlined review" option offered by Collabra: Psychology (@collabraoa) is under-appreciated.

Have you received a #PeerReview that you think was unfair, overly critical, based on a misunderstanding, or on scientific criteria you disagree with? Do you think you could have responded to most of the issues if given a chance? You can resubmit the manuscript to Collabra, along with the previous review and explain how you would have responded to it. If the editor agrees, they may initiate a streamlined review process (rather than reviewing it as a novel submission). A more efficient process for you, and resources saved for the community!

The US administration is coming for #ScientificJournals now.. I don't have access to the full article, and it's in French, but several journals have received a "questioning" mail from the Columbia district state attorney, and two journals have suspended submissions (Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP) and the Journal of Health and Pollution (JHP)) citing federal funding cuts.

L’administration Trump s’attaque aux revues savantes

Next step: destroying published papers? We should all probably archive as much of the scientific literature as we can before it's too late..

@LudoWaltman in an ideal world, predatory scientific journals would not exist. Or scholars would seriously #boycott them.
In an ideal world scientific journals are diamond open access (DOAJ: doaj.org/) so that #knowledge produced by #universities would be available without additional costs to whom pay, i.e. every citizen via the taxes.

Looking into #ScienceAdvances as a journal to publish in..
Why is there a reference limit, and why is it so low (80 references)? In this day and age? For an online-only journal?

I was not aware about this web: allows you to find journals impact factors, quartiles, journal rankings, etc., but also conferences ranking, meetings, workshops, etc. Quite useful #Research #Publication #Science #ScientificJournals #MarineEcology www.resurchify.com/if/impact-fa...

"Among other moves, according to the statement, Elsevier “eliminated support for a copy editor ...” The editors say the publisher “frequently introduces errors during production that were not present in the accepted manuscript:”

In fall of 2023, for example, without consulting or informing the editors, Elsevier initiated the use of AI during production, creating article proofs devoid of capitalization ..."

#Replications are an important yet neglected part of ensuring #scientific #progress .🐌
So here is a call for more #love for replications! 🌏 🌎 🌍

Maybe you want to replicate an educational finding or publishing a replication you have in your #FileDrawer ?

Here is the chance: #ZBF #ZeitschriftFürBildungsforschung offers replications as #new type of paper (above and beyond using #RegisteredReport for replications):

About #preprint / #scientificJournals bots:

Now that I'm at it, I'll try to get rid of the #PubMed image which is shipped as #previewCard of each and every post containing a #PubMed , 375kB which seems to be copied for each post times each server... I'm afraid it's GBs already of that trash.

Idk how to ask #Mastodon *not to* include a preview, but I've noted if there's a 1st link that fails to give a #previewCard, it seems to give it up, so trying to put the DOI link above in @Rxiv_mechanobio

There is something very satisfying about getting that "#Proofs of your paper are ready" email. There is also something very exhausting about it as you think, "Haven't I finished with that one?"
(and it's not like most #ScientificJournals provide with any real editing support)

@steveroyle I think Cell Press is doing great work, but Nature Journals only use Twitter replica counts. Science, AACR, and Oxford Press (including NAR and others) are absent. #academia #ScientificJournals

When you create your scientific journal, you also need to consider its visual identity: website, journal layout, etc. What questions should you ask yourself?

"#diamondOA require[s] alternative funding sources, and even if such funding were in place, academics still face a massive collective action problem: …Career advancement depends heavily on publishing in #scientificJournals with established name recognition and prestige…Many academics – particularly early-career #researchers trying to secure long-term employment in an extremely difficult job market – cannot afford to take a chance on new, untested journals on their own."
