"The row has reignited a longstanding debate over whether the Barnett formula – in use since 1978 – is fit for purpose, and whether it should be reformed or scrapped in favour of a universal needs-based approach."
@Lazarou Swinney is a technocrat. A manager. Very like #Starmer, in fact: a man without any vision or strong ideals, just doing what seems to be pragmatic in the moment. A tactician, not a strategist.
He has been a good servant to Scotland in departmental roles, but he's not a leader, and not fit to lead.
He will not take us to #ScottishIndependence
lol, see?
'A Scottish Keir Starmer' ditching the progressives, obsessed with Reform, to hell with the majority of other voters, it's the Protest Vote they want!
He's like the SNP's own Keir Starmer....ditching all the progressive votes, chasing bigotry....
He's no Nicola Sturgeon. So the Establishment won't come for him, he's safe from them. Not a threat like Nicola was...

Oor Lesley mentioned this video she made on her podcast this week. As she says, this is a perfect miniature of Scotland's power problem...
But she needs to learn to pronounce Bealach na Bà!
@christineburns If, instead, we sold that electricity cheapest where it is cheaply generated – at cost, perhaps, of curtailing industrial **customers** in those areas on those rare occasions when the tide is slack and the wind isn't blowing – we'd move investment in energy intensive industries, and consequently jobs, into those remote coastal regions, reduce their endemic fuel poverty, and decrease the need for expensive new grid infrastructure.
/Ends
@christineburns but the Grid takes that cheap energy away over long distances via inefficient transmission lines in order to be sold at relatively subsidised prices in the south east of England, where, because of lower wind speeds, tighter planning and more expensive land, it's very much more expensive to generate clean electricity.

@christineburns part of the problem here is that the National Grid is by design a colonial extractivist mechanism. Power to the consumer is most expensive precisely in those remote areas where clean energy is cheapest and easiest to generate –

@ScottishGreens is it me or is the SNP going down the shitter these days? 😔
Please all come to the counter-protest that StandUpToRacism is organising this Saturday, 24th May at St Giles Cathedral at 11 am in Edinburgh to stop far-right that are coordinating a „Great British Strike“(🤔🤦♀️).

@wood5y It's worse than that. To pass the citizenship test, you have to have detailed knowledge about Magna Carta (but not the Declaration of Arbroath or the Cyfraith Hywel) and a game called 'cricket'.
By that standard, very few Scots are 'British'. It's as if we didn't exist.
@Holberg In Scotland, period products are free by law for everyone who needs them.
This is one of the reasons I'm proud to be Scots. We are, I believe, the first country in the world to do this, and, when you think about it for even five minutes, it's an essential component of social justice and inclusion.
(Sadly, chocolate is not free)
"On Saturday 17 May the women stood outside the Scottish parliament building with their shirts off and their arms painted red, which they said was a mark of solidarity with anti-fascist feminists across Europe. Each protester held a white rose to represent the “death of transgender rights in the UK”, and wore tape across their mouths to symbolise the “censorship of #trans voices” in the court ruling."

I now have two copies of the same form letter from the same #Labour MSP.
It shows how deeply they care about trans people, of course.
Still no acknowledgement of my request for a meeting to discuss this.
