There are few sounds that make my flesh really crawl on this planet - but the tunes of Scottish #bagpipes is indeed something I cloud listen to for hours, being simply overjoyed and calm...

"I play the tunes for my brothers and Glen
The woods of my childhood call me again
For the colours of freedom so far I did roam
Cause I'm the piper and I coming home"

(GRAVE DIGGER, "Coming Home")

Nestled in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, the church, Greyfriars Kirk, was founded in 1620 as the first church to be built in post-reformation Scotland.

It is in this famed graveyard that you will find Tom Riddell, William McGonagall and a certain Robert Potter- the inspiration for some of J. K. Rowling's most famous Harry Potter characters. Rumour has it that the names emblazoned on various headstones in the graveyard inspired J .K. Rowling to create characters of similar names in the wizarding world of Harry Potter.

The Scottish American Memorial, or Scots American War Memorial, is in West Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh. It was called "The Call 1914", and it was erected in 1927 and shows a kilted infantryman looking towards Castle Rock. Behind the main statue is a frieze showing queues of men answering the call by following a kilted pipe band. The memorial was given by Scottish-Americans to honour Scots who had served in the first World War.

Lest we forget.

The memorial features an inscription that reads "THE CALL 1914" and includes a tribute from the Americans of Scottish blood and sympathies to Scotland. The front of the base cites a line from the biblical Book of Judges: "A People that jeopardized their lives unto the death in the high places of the field."

The statue is adorned with several red poppy wreaths, which are a symbol of remembrance for those who have died in war. The engraving on the base panel below the soldier depicts what appears to be a scene of soldiers in action or marching, suggesting that the memorial could be dedicated to those who served in World War I. The surrounding environment includes greenery and a partly cloudy sky, indicating an outdoor setting, likely within a park or near a public building.

While the publicity around #JKRowling isn't the best at the moment quite rightly, it is undoubted what she has created in terms of #HarryPotter. Once you are in #Edinburgh and manage to see #TheRoyalMile and if you're a #Potterhead (and even if you're not), this place at the #CityChambers shows the hands of JK Rowling immortalized in the ground of the city Harry's world was created in.

Usually I try to prevent to appear in my own photos but when seeing Adam Waters seven years after my last visit in #Edinburgh I had to talk to him again (he's a Metal fan and teacher by the way!) and couldn't resist posting this historical incorrect shield wall of #Braveheart (left) and a Viking-wannabe (right, me) here.

Adam's a great guy and is part of the #RoyalMile just beneath #EdinburghCastle for more than twenty years now. All money he collects is donated to children for the fight against Leukemia and it is told he raised more than 2 million pounds over the years - read a great anecdote on Adam's story here:

He is wearing attire that includes animal furs and a leather tunic, accessorized with ropes, beads, and a sword attached to his belt. He is also holding what seems to be a mug or a similar object and striking a playful pose extending his fist toward the camera. The encounter captured in the photo gives it a lively and festive feel, likely part of a historical or cultural reenactment event or a festival celebrating Viking history.

Seven years after my last visit in #Edinburgh it was - of course - about time to also re-visit lovely #deanvillage again. Only a few things have changed since 2018 but the scenery is still worth any effort to put it into a photo!

Hey Hugin, where is Munin?

"And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted—nevermore!"
