Well, I came across a useful reason to have the ‘Royal Family’ this afternoon. A somewhat divisive argument (unionist and independents) and going nowhere. Dropping the nonce onto the the ‘discussion’ was remarkably effective and everyone got back on a discussion of tea, coffee and the common enemy.

@Shivviness @neonsnake Strongly agree, and it's why the focus of my activism has moved from #ScottishIndependence to building a resilient community here in Auchencairn.

I think we're realistically too late for independence now. All states will be swept away in civilisational collapse, which is now inevitable within this century; and in any case, as I've been saying for twenty years now, independence on a dead planet is a hollow victory.

Gaun the wimmin!

Women in Scotland see independence as an opportunity for greater empowerment and autonomy in their own and their families lives. There’s a quiet revolution going on as more women support #scottishindependence.

The grotesquely belated UK royal defenestration of #exPrince Andrew is too little too late. Even the soggy Starmerite #NewStatesman is now calling for an end to the monarchy.

But not yet. The NS is passive, and wants #PrinceWilliam to voluntarily quit when his father dies. #GoodLuckWithThat 🙄

Mike Small says it's time for the #ScottishIndependence movement to put a #ScottishRepublic at the centre of the campaign for an independent #Scotland👍 #NoKings

Hmm - Westminster MP lies about Scotland, repeatedly. Quelle Suprise.

‘the UK Statistics Authority said: “In brief, we consider that these statements lacked enough transparency about their sources to be verified, and that the broad evidence did not support them.”’

He is also opposed to privatising the disastrous English private water companies.

UK minister rebuked over claim English water better than Scottish
Former environment secretary Steve Reed risked ‘misleading the public’ by repeatedly attacking Scotland’s water quality, says watchdog

Steve Reed claimed that pollution levels in Scotland exceeded those in England and Wales

Britain’s former environment secretary risked “misleading the public” by repeatedly attacking Scotland’s water quality and insisting it was inferior to England’s, a watchdog has ruled.
Steve Reed, who is now the housing secretary, provoked fury from the SNP in July when he said sewer pollution levels north of the border were higher, while arguing against calls to take English water firms into public ownership.

Just listened to Skotia Media's interview of Your Party co-founder Zarah Sultana. Refreshing to hear that they are open-minded about Scottish Independence, but saddened that she misrepresented policy positions of the Scottish Greens. Overall, I'm afraid that the interview rather reminded me of my experience of student politics in Sheffield in the mid-80s.

I notice that #Starmer instructed his MPs to abstain on the motion that #Farage (later dropped for all but the cabinet) put to the house to withdraw from the #EHCR.

What is wrong with the ‘man’ and his party, a massive majority and the bar steward is still hoping he can attract support from the facists (see Hesseltine’s comments - attached link).

From the Gruaniad, text reads Why Labour changed its stance on letting its MPs vote against Farage's bill for UK to leave ECHR
Peter Walker
Peter Walker

Peter Walker is the Guardian’s senior political correspondent.

The vote by 63 Labour MPs against Nigel Farage’s ten-minute rule bill on the UK leaving the European convention on human rights – without which the Commons would have backed the bill – happened because a few Labour backbenchers warned whips and the party hierarchy that they had to act.

While 10-minute rule bills have no chance of becoming law without subsequent government backing, MPs including Stella Creasy warned that allowing Farage’s bill to be passed would send a terrible signal to European neighbours, who would not necessarily understand the purely symbolic impact of the vote.

The initial instruction to Labour MPs was to not vote. After a pushback, this was amended to say that while frontbenchers should do this, those on the backbenches could vote if they wanted.

“To let such a bill pass at a time of sensitivity in negotiations over our European deal would be taken badly,” Creasy said.Linked article, photo of Michael Hesseltine and the text reads

From the linked article text reads

Unionists, beware an alliance of Celtic nationalists
new
After Plaid Cymru’s victory in last week’s by-election, Reform has become a catalyst for unity in Scotland, and the news is doubly bad for Labour’s Anas Sarwar
Iain Macwhirter
Sunday October 26 2025, 6.00pm GMT, The Times
Just when Unionists thought the UK was safe from nationalism, suddenly it’s back, and potentially stronger than ever. Caerphilly may seem a long way from Holyrood, but the reverberations of Plaid Cymru’s astonishing victory in last week’s by-election will be felt here all the way to the May elections.
This is not just because Scotland’s main Unionist parties, Labour and the Conservatives, were given a nightmare vision of what may happen here in seven months’ time. An old pan-Celtic vision of a united front against Anglo-Saxon England is rattling its chains from beyond the grave.
Last week, Labour didn’t just lose a by-election in one of its safest seats: it lost control of the Welsh parliament, the Senedd, for the first time in a quarter of a century. And according to the polling expert Professor Sir John Curtice, it isn’t going to get it back. He thinks Labour will come third in the Senedd elections in May.

Kaye Adams was repeatedly warned over the need to maintain political impartiality and told to tone down her “pro-Labour bias” while working for BBC Radio Scotland, former colleagues have claimed.
The 62-year-old broadcaster, who also presents Loose Women on ITV, has been suspended from her morning radio show amid allegations she bullied co-workers.
According to reports, Adams is facing claims that she “shouted and screamed” at junior members of staff but she denies any wrongdoing. From the article

Another BBC insider claimed: “That Kaye is far from enthusiastic about the SNP and the idea of Scottish independence is not exactly a well-guarded secret. She also seems to have very little time for the Tories.
“That’s all grist to the mill if you are a newspaper columnist but it brings with it real difficulties when you are working for the national broadcaster, especially in a country that is split right down the middle over the constitution.”From the article

Text

Gerry Hassan, the pro-independence political author and commentator, has directly accused Adams of being partisan.

“Kaye’s biases often show,” he alleged on Twitter in 2019.
“She once told me she hated the SNP and independence as it would lose her London work.”
His allegations of bias were denied by the BBC at that time.
Hassan did not respond to a request for comment.
Adams stoked controversy last year when she read out a text live on air which compared a call by Humza Yousaf, the first minister and SNP leader at the time, for a “Tory-free Scotland” to Hitler’s “final solution” for the Jews during the Holocau

I've filmed an episode of Jockonary about Ronnie Browne's book That Guy Fae the Corries. It goes live on YouTube at 12.45 today:

It's got some stories about Flower of Scotland, the theft of the combolins, and so on.

The Corries put out some great music and I think they did an admirable job keeping a part of Scottish culture alive.

A post Brexit ‘fishing fund ‘ is being divvied up across the UK.

Less than 8% of that will come to #Scotland. More than 60% of the fishing fleet is in Scotland and likewise more than 60% of fish exports come from Scotland.

Are Labour really this feckin stupid or is this another attempt to drive down Scottish living standards (see #Grangemouth another perverse decision)
