Marginal spaces. Here a small shallow loch in a unvisited nature reserve is home to many species, including dragonfly larvae.

There's something very Scottish about this view from Lang Craigs, just to the west of Glasgow. It's not the sheep in the foreground, or the snow-capped Ben Lomond in the distance - it's the tree which has grown with a curved trunk due to the pressure from the ever-present prevailing wind!

Today's view across Glasgow and beyond from the flagpole in Queen's Park on the Southside of the city, with the slightest dusting of snow just visible on the highest parts of the Campsies.

Crystal clear waters in #Portree harbour this afternoon in warm spring sunshine.

...Not so clear in the sky, which hinted strongly at the showers to come ๐Ÿ™‚

A photo of Portree harbour, several small boats fill the bay. The water is clear and the seabed can easily be seen. The sky overhead above distant hills is overcast with rainclouds.

McCaig's Tower in Oban, lit by a warm morning sun on a recent visit.

A photo of the entrance arch to McCaigs Tower in Oban. The curving path to the entrance is bordered by grass on either side. The branches of a nearby tree hang into the left side of the image. The overhead sky is blue with white clouds.A photo of the inner curved wall of McCaigs Tower, Oban. The construction mimics the Colosseum in Rome, with two levels of lancet arches.

There are plenty of photos of the Old Man of Storr but fewer from it as the paths around it can be a bit of a scramble. The surrounding area, including 'The Sanctuary' behind it (as usually viewed) is also well worth exploring.
A unique and often bizarre landscape.

This was taken from the path that runs up and around the Old Man and behind 'The Cathedral'.

Yes, the names are all wonderful ๐Ÿ™‚

A photo of a large grey and black rocky outcrop. The surrounding landscape is a mixture of brown and green. Smaller rock outcrops lie around the base. In the distance a loch can be seen on the left side of the image, backed by a hilly coastline. The sky is overcast, merging into mist on the horizon.

A view of the Kings Knot, in Stirling, as viewed from 'The Back Walk' that follows the old city walls just below Stirling Castle ๐Ÿฐ

Details here;

It is both a fine place to explore at ground level with a dog ๐Ÿ• and good to view from above with excellent views of the surrounding area... after a short but steep climb back up โ˜บ๏ธ

A panoramic photo of the Kings Knot in Stirling as viewed from above on a sunny day. The knot itself is a large octagonal earthwork, covered in grass. The immediate foreground is the tops of trees surrounding the high vantage point which also gives views over the surrounding countryside. Green fields are prominent. Distant hills can be seen on the horizon under a blue sky dotted with clouds.

Another photo from my trip up into the Arrochar Alps on Sunday. The main peaks you can see (left to right) are Beinn Narnain (926m) The Cobbler (884m), and The Brack (787m) as seen from Beinn Luibhean (860m).

A misty and overcast day heading over to explore the mainland. First stop this morning was the always excellent Midge Bite Cafe in #Achnasheen. Coffee and cakes for the journey.

On the left the #A832 winds towards #Dingwall and #Inverness, on the right, the #Kyle of Lochalsh railway line mirrors the road and makes a similar journey through the #Highlands

Dolphin watching at Chanonry Point ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿฌ

...doubtless those around here with bigger cameras and longer lenses will have better photos but the fact this is handheld from the phone suggests how close they came around the headland. Perfect timing after the walk down the beach from Rosemarkie

Another fine place for a gentle weekend walk, the impressive 5 metre-high Duirinish standing stone overlooking Dunvegan... It's not as old as it may seem. Well, the rock itself is ๐Ÿ™‚... But it's not been in place as long as long as you might imagine.

Continuing to organise photos from last year. This is a somewhat unusual view from the Storr, a little above the beaten path. Looks to me like the spine of some ancient mythical creature diving under the landscape ๐Ÿ™‚
