My wife and I planned a trip with the kids, and we were forced (ugh!) to use AirBNB; aka, "unregulated hotels." We arrive in the cabin, and that's all we find. Thank fuck we brought supplies or else our children would mutiny.

Okay, I'm coming to you all for help. I've been reading the first draft of my novel, and it's filling me with dread. I wrote academic work for 20 years and taught composition, which means I am very aware of the mechanics of tone and rhetoric. I can tell you *why* a sentence is bland vs. exciting. Then, I spent 10 years doing play-by-post D&D: an hour every single day of writing "adventure fiction." I didn't find *a* voice. I found dozens of voices.
