Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore? Do you think there is anything you could do to make it enjoyable again?

I do ceative stuff because I enjoy it. If I don't enjoy it, I don't have to do it.

Tempting fate, here, but: no.

#ScribesAndMakers Dec 13: Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore?

Not currently, though I have felt like that about my writing a few times--usually a sign of burnout. The cure, so far, has been remembering how to play with it and taking some of the pressure off of it.

Dec 13: Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore?

Not specifically. My interest in any given activity tends to wax and wane. If I try to force it, then it becomes a chore. I just have to let it come back around again.

Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore? Do you think there is anything you could do to make it enjoyable again?

Not really on both.
But I have some interest in building a H0 (1:87 scale) road crossing in a city where the road is like an X on the ground, and the houses at the corners are open from the back so you can see inside. Each room on each floor will be stuffed with furniture and people.
Dunno when or how, but some day…

#ScribesAndMakers 13. Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore? Do you think there is anything you could do to make it enjoyable again?

You know, I think I'm gonna say handwriting anything. I probably enjoyed it at some point. I handwrite my Yule and lunar new year cards but that's about it.

I write in my dream journal and for my solo journaling game. I think I might enjoy handwriting if I play the game more.

I haven't done much fiberart for several years. Then about six months after the house fire, I had cataract surgery. I had not realized how bad my eyes had gotten.

I suspect close work would be more fun again now that my eyes are working better, but I have been busy with the house building project (now finished) and writing.

#ScribesAndMakers day 13: Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore? Do you think there is anything you could do to make it enjoyable again?

Oof. Artwork. I just do commission pieces now. There are a few paintings I'd like to do for myself, but it feels too much like work.
I could. The only thing stopping me from doing it is my own mind. I could put on some good music and probably get into painting again. It's just a matter of getting out of my own way. Right?

None are coming to mind. There are ones I have put aside for the time being, because I only have so many hours in the day and only so much energy, but I'd be happy to go back to them if I had the bandwidth.

#ScribesandMakers Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore? ...Is anything you could do to make it enjoyable again?

I had think about this one. I think the answer is, "No." That's because when something doesn't feel fresh or interesting, I don't do it until it does again. I think this is part of my assertion that my creative output is uneven and unpredictable. Part of that is never "pushing through" to work on something when I'm not feelin' it. I can wait.

#ScribesAndMakers 13, Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore?

If it's become a chore, I stop doing it, unless contractually obliged and paid by my employer, or unless I get to eat it.

#ScribesAndMakers 13, Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore?

Cooking. I can thoroughly enjoy cooking something tasty, but stars, there is never enough time and the kitchen is always a mess, and the trash needs taking out, and I'm missing that ingredient, and dishes need a wash, and how did I get tomato soup on the ceiling?

I could maintain a tidier kitchen, or I could doodle a mouse stealing the moon.

#ScribesAndMakers is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore?

Painting with oils. I used to love the process, but since I've been ill, the idea of setting up the easel, mixing everything, even just holding up the brush to canvas would end up with my arm aching after about a minute and everything else exhausted.

If I recover from this bloody thing I might start back into it, especially if I can get the workroom done.

#ScribesAndMakers Dec 13: Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore? Do you think there is anything you could do to make it enjoyable again?

Not really. I still like coding, but I don't do as much at home now. I kinda get my fill at work, and writing's more fun.

#ScribesAndMakers Day 13: Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy, but has now become a chore?

I wouldn't say anything's a chore as such. It's more that squeezing out the time is a challenge.

#ScribesandMakers 13 Dec: 13. Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore? ...Is anything you could do to make it enjoyable again?

For me, things only feel like chores if I'm compelled to do them. My creative activities aren't compelled, so they don't feel like chores. The exceptions are things I do in part for other people: I can feel like if I don't do them, I might disappoint people, so there's an aspect of compulsion. But usually the process is still fun.

Day 13: Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy, but has now become a chore?

I used to draw chibi of my friend's original characters as gifts. I don't do it as much anymore because people began to expect it.

#ScribesAndMakers 12/13 Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy, but has now become a chore?

I get a little peeved these days when people assume I’m available, able, or willing to make them a balloon sculpture, especially for no moolah.

Do I enjoy making balloon art when the spirit hits? Yes.
Do I enjoy trying to reverse engineer a 12 ft cupcake arrangement ballon piece that you saw someone hype up on TikTok?
No. Not, really, no.

#ScribesAndMakers December 13: Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore?

Audio recording. Of any variety.

Do you think there is anything you could do to make it enjoyable again?
If I had dedicated space for it so I didn't have to set up and break down completely each time I did it, that would help. It's the kind of thing where a co-op space would be useful. Most of us don't have the money for the equipment. I don't either but I've built it up over literally decades. Forget about the space.
