I keep trying Scrivener and I keep not loving it. Seriously considering just writing to text with vim. I'm just not sure how I'd solve the formatting to layout flow. #scrivener #writing
Listening to Write Now with Scrivener (Episode 56: Alexander Rose, Historian): https://podcast.scrivenerapp.com/56
Alexander Rose is a historian whose latest book, Phantom Fleet, is about how the US Navy captured a German U-Boat on the day before D-Day.
Shoutout to Scrivener's devs for taking the boldest "fuck AI" stance possible. They not only don't have it, but they give a tutorial on how to remove the gen AI crap Apple forces into their products against their will.

PSA: Scrivener on Apple forcing GenAI/LLMs on them
"Not satisfied with just destroying their own brand goodwill, OS companies are now using AI to try to destroy the good names of the apps users install. (Scrivener taking out adds to explain how it has no AI but Apple adds some anyway.)"--Jill Murray

How do I feel when I complete any of my major milestones for my writing projects?
Completing a milestone, even one as simple as setting up a Scrivener project, make the story/novella/novel Real. It's not just living in my head, it's down on [virtual] paper, where I can put my thoughts, my research, etc and make it a reality.

@adriabailton
What do I consider major milestones in my writing projects? Starting? Outline done? Finishing a draft? Finishing an edit stage? Sale? Publication?
The big ones [for me] are : Opening up a project in Scrivener, Completing the Outline (if it's a longer work--my short story outlines are sketchy at best), Exporting to submit/Submitting, Sale, Publication.

#Scrivener apparently can't handle nonstandard charsets well in compile, and googling for answers turned up nothing, since my use case is so marginal. Sorry, just needed to vent someplace. Anyhow, the print version is ready to publish – now I have to do this all again for ebook.
Fucking FINALLY got my print layout correct for the transliteration of my novel, Blue Are the Hills, into #Shavian. #Scrivener has fought me every step of the way, such that I had to finally just accept the nonsense it vomited, then manually redo things – excruciatingly, painstakingly – in Acrobat.
The cover of my #Shavian transliteration is done. All that's left now is to compile (in #Scrivener). Wish me luck!
Omg, I just finished all of my editing, and all of my images. Now I *just* have to compile this – in #Scrivener. Please pray for me. My first few compiles have resulted in gibberish, and there’s basically ZERO resources to help me fix this. So it’ll either be done in days, or years. Not sure.
#WritersCoffeeClub day 19: How do you keep track of dates and events in a WIP?
I never have, really, to my detriment. I tend to write stories that are very linear and so it would be easy to track what comes next and what came before, even with multiple PoVs, but it's left me with some confusion and wasted time in the past.
One of my current WiPs is multiple PoVs taking place on different planets/locations in space, and I've started to just keep a note where each chapter lands on the relative timeline.
#Scrivener makes this quite simple.
I think I need to find a replacement for Scrivener. It runs *okay* in Linux, but there are some real issues.
No need to give me links to other Scrivener-like programs. I'm aware of them.
But if you write long-form in Linux, what do you use and *why*? I'm really curious about that.

Scrivener 3.5 is out. With support for macOS 26, and a slew of bug fixes. Many related to macOS 26 ☺️
I'm still on macOS 15.6.1. Primarily because I need Scrivener to work in order to get paid. People say other writing apps exist. But they are not Scrivener!
Waiting to see if they need any juries today, and if I get randomly picked.
Listening to Write Now with Scrivener (Episode 55: Maria Reva, Booker Longlisted Author of Endling): https://podcast.scrivenerapp.com/55
Maria Reva's novel Endling about snails, romance tours, and the war in Ukraine, is longlisted for the Booker Prize.
I take a lot of pride in being quite "techy” and able to sort out programs, menus, and get a gist of things.
but sweet baby jesus the learning curve on trying to use #Scrivener for my academic final Capstone #thesis ?!
I don't want to spend months writing only to be defeated by the nuances of “complie”…
A sketch of my #OriginalCharacter named Mariam. She's a fandom OC (#devilmaycry)! She's a witch and a descendant of Lucifer (via her patron demon, who is a daughter of Lucifer and Lilith).
I could fix a few things up, but it's been a while since I did #digitalart so I like how it looks so far!
(I also plan on working more on her lore for my fanon with her and some of my other Devil May Cry OCs, but... gotta get myself to sit down and do it. Probably will use #scrivener for that).
