The Australian cockatoo drinking fountain story reminded me of an early morning in San Francisco. Coming up stairs to the Pacific Coast Highway near the end of Golden Gate Park, we arrived at a red pedestrian light, pressed the button, and waited.

Then we heard a sea lion bark -- but overhead, in the air.

Puzzled, we looked up.

It was a crow on top of the light high above the road. Barking repeatedly while looking into the top light to see when it changed.

Bridge number 382 is a special kind of bridge called a bascule bridge. It was built in 1️⃣9️⃣3️⃣5️⃣ and designed by P.L. Kramer in the Amsterdam School style. The decorations were made by Kramer, Jaap Kaas, and Hildo Krop. ⚒️

At the end of the quay wall, you can see a fun sculpture of two sea lions playing with a ball. It’s a nice detail that makes the bridge unique. 🦭🦭⚽️

This bridge is important because of its creative design and beautiful stone carvings. It shows the special style of Amsterdam architecture from the 1930s. 🏛️

Likely developed for naval special operations, bestial human seals and sea lions are clever, powerful individuals, if lacking in grace and speed on land. They are all but immune to extremes of cold, and while slow on land are incredibly swift swimmers (18m per round), count as aquatic animals when they swim, and can hold their breath underwater or above it for 10 minutes.
They have strong, sharp teeth (SV +11/ DMG 1d12+1) and are entirely carnivorous. Although typically playful and curious, pinniped-men can become aggressive when they feel their authority is challenged, and bloody fights are not uncommon among the males in their harems/rafts.
